I was thinking about replacing the Thermostat for a while and today I thought of getting the parts from Toyota. I got the part numbers from Peter Nitschke’s tutorial under the Basic Maintenance in Soarer Central. (Thanks Peter)

I bought my parts from Salisbury Toyota where we can all now get ALSC pricing on Toyota parts.

V8 Thermostat 90916-03129 $14.77
V8 Thermostat Gasket 16325-62010 $7.71

That’s how much Peter paid for his parts. This is the interesting part. I rang 3 toyota dealers and this is the pricing I got from them. What do you guys think?

Nunawading Toyota
90916-03129 $35 plus taxes
16325-62010 $15 plus taxes

Lane Toyota
90916-03129 $27.96
16325-62010 $10.90

Chadstone Toyota
90916-03129 $15.15
16325-62010 $8.25

Chadstone was close enough to Peter’s ALSC Pricing he got from Salisbury Toyota. I ordered it from them. It’s going to take a day for the parts to arrive once we order it.

I wonder if I rang more Toyota Dealers would this price go down more???

Thought this will help if you want to get these in Melbourne.

Will Toyota do a price match?

Don't forget that you have to say "ALSC discount please", as this makes a substantial difference to the end price.

But that only applies to certain Toyota dealers

Delan, you could have ordered from Salisbury Toyota via email. :-)

I paid $24 and $7 for mine.
Its a camry thermostat though (90916-03075), so thats possibly why its higher priced?
Still 82degC and identical dimensions to the one I removed.

Aren't we talking about thermostats? That makes more sense now. The cap would release pressure at a higher temperature than the thermostat opens. You will lose fluid if you take the thermostat out

Oh GOD, I hate it when I make a "Whoopsy", wait another "One", and I'll pop right out to the garage AGAIN, and check out the old thermostat........

OKI-DOKI, back again. My old thermostat has the following info on it: From R to L, 82 degrees C.....A......02 11, other than that....nada/zilch.

, I now suspect that this "Old" one, was in fact an "After-market" replacement, but don't really know, and frankly, am not fussed.

ie, not the factory one.

If its Toyota, it will have the TEQ symbol on it.

when should thermostat be replaced?
i have noticed lately my dash has been displaying engine temps lower than half way. I drove from Adelaide to melbourne this evening and as it got cold outside the temp guage showed about 3 notches below half way!
usually sits one notch below half.
time to change?
