yeh unfortuantly it does.
Ive been told to check behind the glove box (gap) if its actually a line or if its leaking.
Its only a slight leak any way but its constant.. It occured when i had my cooling system flushed, pressurised and a new radiator head installed :s think it would be a line or a crack?

just a thought guys .....my heater was not working a while ago and i thought it could have been the heater core but it turns out it was the radiator.
My radiator had given up and had more cracks in it than a whore house. This caused a loss of pressure and therefore no water was getting to the heater core.
strangely enough my temp gauge never moved!!! i put that down to being winter and so cold outside etc.
Had radiator fixed and what do you know the heater was cranking again.
just a thought, hope this helps & is a lot cheaper and easier than pulling the dash out.

Chris: It IS that white wall. You will have to pull out the entire piece, from the fan (the round section on the far left, to the right side of the transmission tunnel. FUN FUN FUN.
I dont evny you at all.

Hi Chris and everyone else,
I've got the same problem with my '89 Celsior and I'm in the Melbourne area. Went to the local UltraTune because the coolant had dropped a little bit and the warning light came on. They had a look and said $2,000 AUD and a week without it for them to fix it!
If anyone knows a good place in the general Melbourne area that has done a replacement on a Celsior/LS400 (*crosses fingers* might take less time if they have done one before?) please let me know.
By the way, the RACV roadside guy told me when I broke down on Sunday that my alternator is stuffed and they won't sell & install the part for me. Looks like I'll need to get a tow to a workshop for that anyway, so someone who can do a good job for the price at the same time would be a bonus.
If it is $800 in labour for a heater core replacement, how much is a heater core part itself? New or second hand?

RWC in Vic still demands a heater.
Are they actually failing you because the air that comes out is not hot? Bastards.
That seems to be a bit of a grey area.
In the RWC guide it sais: Vehicles required to comply with demisting provisions (e.g. ADR 15 & licenced buses) must have the neccesary equipment present and operational.
Then when you look at ADR 15...
ADR 15 - Demisting of Windscreen
The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for standards for equipment to maintain the windscreen clear of 'Mist' so that driver's 'Forward' vision is not obscured.
This rule ceased to have effect from 1 January 2005.

Worth a shot on clarification. I know I asked an RWC tester about this a few months back though and he told me he still tests it. I asked because my Firebird had no heater box in it.

Could probably just show him the latest ADR's so his aware of the changes, and he would let it slide. I see no reason for him to fail it, unless he can back it up with documentary evidence.
Either that or take it to another tester who will most likely pass it

Yeah but the text on the website isn't particularly clear if some other ADR has replaced 15 for passenger cars. I have seen the documentation that RWC testers get and it is very detailed.. they know more than we do about the regs.
