ok, ive got a 88 soarer with the 3lt 7mgte twin turbo engine, So what happened was me and a mate were degreasing the engine then hosed it air dried it down, was running fine this morning then when i finished work i started the car up and it seemed like it was not running on all cylinders, just thought it might clear itself. took it to a servo to air dry the plugs, took of one of the leads and it was full of water(mustve been from degreasing the night before) so i got a vaccuum onto it and sucked out all the water, started it up and it was still running rough but cleared itself, started to head home as i live 13ks outta town and it started to really overheat, some strange error msg came up and so did a check one on the dash. car was extremely hot when i got home, leaving it to cool down now, but on your opinion guys do i nned a new head gasket? as i dont really want to drive it anymore to risk more injury, should i also get a mechanic out to look at it? sorry about the writing

Yeah mate, I dunno about a new engine, but it happened to me twice after cleaning my engine bay. I had a bad miss and started to overheat, but eventually she worked herself back!! Moral of the story: water on engine=bad! Sorry to hear of your problem!!

Take all the plugs out, then clean and dry all the plug wells, along with the leads and plugs. Go over everything ignition related with a quick spray of WD-40 (or local equivalent 'de-watering' compound). Reassemble and you should be fine. It's likely that you've had a misfire on some cylinders, and the unburnt mixture has exited into the turbo, where the heat fired it off. If you've got a cat then it just might have been fried, but the chances are you'll be fine.
Good Luck

ok, now for the latest....its blowing a bit of light grey smoke on idle and its definately running a bit rough, like not firing properly, new spark plugs in, leads seem ok, but took of the oil cap and there seems to be a creamy residue underneath. head gasket gone i think
any ideas on cost to put in a new head gasket and head studs found a cometic metal h/g for $170 plus ARP head studs for the same price, is it a difficult job?

thanks guys, yep heads definately gone. noticed that the smoke is more white also, does this mean the turbos fudged 2? oh, and ive drained the oil put fresh oil in(yep, it was like choc milkshake), and also drained the coolant and disconnected hoses. Taking it to mechanics next week whos going to fix it for me. ok, so hes machining the head if its warped, putting in a new metal head gasket, a gasket kit, putting in arp head bolts, filling it up with new oil etc, anything else that needs looking at or will it be ok?
