anybody had any experience with motul 300v 10w40? I read an ad in a hpi or something last night about it, it is full synthetic too. might have to see if i can find a price on it.

The 300V is very expensive Jeff - last I remember it was around the $20/l mark and is usually sold in 2litre containers. It's an excellent quality fully synthetic ester based oil but unless you plan to do some racing it's a waste of money in my opinion.

Yeah, I run it - cost me about $15/L last change.... hurts to toss it out after 5000kms

Yes, the thought of doing that put me off using it Manny. I've got some documents you may be interested in. Will email them to you.

hmm well i guess that ill just stick to helix ultra then! i saw the ad in a fast fours (shutup i had 8 hrs on a plane on the holidays, needed to fill the time with something lol) and it was in 5L bottles, and it had a big speil about how it is used in GT500 GTRs and things like that, so does sound like it is for racing.

ive been using Castrol R (full synth - afaik) 10w-60 in my 138,km 1JZ and have had nothing really to complain about... i always felt i was using the best oils but did have problems with a bit of smoke on idle, never on startup or on throttle, just sitting at a set of traffic lights. i could hide the problem by running a cat but god knows how long the cat will last.

on oil changes the oil is always dirty, then again i never end up changing bang on 5000kms. but ive also been led to believe that a oil that comes out clean is not doing its job properly (not cleaning and picking up the carbon).

anyway after reading this thread ive actually become more confused on how oils and their associated values work. not only that but am i running a risk by using the oil im using, its costing just shy of $70 for the oil so i would like to know what i should be using.

the car is relatively stock (247rwhp) but more power (not much) is definitely on the way.

would it be worth while changing from castrol R syth 10w 60 to castrol R syth 5w 30 (recommended for 10w 30 too) ...or am i just being pedantic?

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/multipleproductsection.do?categoryId=8000004&contentId=6008545

also i havent actually had a good look at the oil precaution sticker in my engine bay... does it recommend a semi synth or full synthetic 10w 30 oil?

delo400. If it can keep a 1500Nm diesel engine in good nick for 40 000km, it shouldn't have any trouble keeping a rice burner running.

SL rated for cars, not just a diesel oil.
