Hi guys,
As some of you may know I had a bit of a crunch job done to my front end of my TT, and am getting it straightened and painted as we speak...but I have a few mechanical questions.
I've heard that the auto boxes have an "after accident" failsafe to stop the car rolling, and lock up (or is it they actually start to free spin so you can move/tow it?), and there is something you need to do to fix them. Well I broke both engine mounts and the tranny mount (which I've since replaced), so I'm guessing if there's some sort of accident failsafe system, it is now active. The car is easy to push and tow in what I think is 'N', but I'm sure we moved it in 'D' straight after the accident.
The gearbox lever seems to be sitting with a very slight lean to the left (away from driver) and I'm finding I can't move through the gears, especially down to 1st, even when holding the red button in. The cars not running and there's no battery in it. Is it normal to not be able to cycle through all gears? OR is something not sitting right? The front end is sitting slightly up a few degrees forward of the windscreen, so I'm guessing when they chassis boys do there work the stick may return to normal.
Also, is there anything directly forward of the engine that may hinder getting the ignition on? I have all the front from the engine forward completely removed, and when I put a battery in, turn the key to accessories, I got nothing. Dead battery? or is there things like ballist resistors and circuits that go through that area? I dont remember removing anything majorly electrical on the front, just headlight and horn wires etc. And the engine started and ran straight after the accident. Are there any fuses etc that I should try. All the little ones in the engine bay fuse box are fine.
Is there anything else I should check? I've never had an accident before, and not sure what may have happened.
Thanks for your help guys. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Mike, take apart the dash bit that holds the ect swtich etc.
Underneath, there is a white plastic tab kind of thing connected to a lock in the trans. Its sits ontop ofthe red button you use to move the lever when the cars off.
If the tranny moved, this white plastic thing could well have slipped off, not allwing you move the lever even if you press the button

Cheers mate...I have the gear selector cover off, and the white plastic tab that the red button pushes, is still moving fine and the gear lever moves freely when pressed down. Problem is that when it isn't pressed, the gear lever STILL moves freely as well...clicking through the gears like normal, but I just cant pull it all the way back. There's about 3cm before it hits the back of the slide. Can someone try it on their Soarer for me?
I also noticed that the unit that holds the little black plastic slide that moves with the stick, was moved. One of the holes cant line up. It's the top right hole which incidently screws into the metal frame of the white plastic tab unit. So obviously this unit is some what bent.
Any ideas?
Does anyone know how the whole shifting mechanism attaches to the gearbox? Can I just unbolt the whole thing and "rebuild/straighten" it? Or is it fixed to the gearbox fairly well?
Maybe I should stop worrying and wait for the engine to sit where it's meant to.

As Cihan said, Wait till its all straight. The gear lever should move freely between N and 2. You need to push the button on top to go to 1. You will be able to roll the car in any gear except P with the engine not running, this is normal as the torque convertor is not operating. Could be a dead battery, but check all your battery cables at both ends, incase anything has come off. Good luck with it.
