A few weeks back I got around to starting off my BFI.

All I did was removed the snorkel and cut the front out of the box. I haven't really noticed a difference so I was wondering if you guys thought it'd be in my best interests to make the cover, and block off the back bits with rubber?

Here is a pic.

What do you think?

Cheers

Looks nicely polished. :-)

Putting some sort of cover around it at least, will heep the hotter engine bay air out of it. Cool is good! Especially for TT's.

Can someone suggest a suitable material for isolating airbox?

Ahhh new surroundings,, haro likes.

mate for your insulation. Go to Clarke Rubber and buy some heat insulated rubber, it is silver on one side, try and get some stuff at least 7mm thick.

I used it with my POD filter and it works a treat. Also a good idea to get some induction pipe to channel some air right to the filter.

Have fun

Morgan, yes buddy, you do need to put the cover over the top of the air box for the front edge so you are not sucking in hot air from the engine bay.
The you need to complete the rest of the BFI. You need to lower the air flow panel thingie in front of the radiator so its diverts approx half the air at the front of the car toward the intake and info your air box.
If the BFI threads and pics survived the crash, you'll find all the "how to" info there. Then you will feel a seat of pants difference.

Clarke Rubber locally sell the silver-backed insulation in 10mm and 20mm. The 10mm is fine, and cheap. A metre will cost $20 and that is more than twice what you will need so you can have three attempts.

Yeah, thanks a lot guys.

I kind of knew I'd have to do the rest of the BFI one day. I probably wont bother with the scoop, but will definately go ahead with lowering the front grille, blocking off the back bits and making a black cover.

Are the real estate signs fine to use for the top covers? Or is it too thick for the screws.

Cheers.

Morgan have a geko at Planet Soarer, Peter Scott's got an excellent tutorial on BFI's 1 through 3, with a list of materials required for each.

Yeah, Thanks Don, I've read them dozens of times but thought the V8 owners are a little more anal than the TT guys about their BFI's as they need all the power they can get

I'll give the cover / lowered grill a go. See how that works out.

Cheers.
