So annoyed now. I took my Soarer in to K&B Auto Electrical to get the air conditioning quoted on getting it fixed. They told me the quote would cost $49.95. I just went to Dampier to pick up a cable for work and they rang me while I was there, and told me that the air con had no leaks or a very slow one that they couldn't find, so they filled it up with gas, and now I have to drive it around for a month or so to let the dye in the gas mix, and then they can look again for a leak.

Now, the problem is that they vacuumed the system, but didn't install a new dryer. No one knows what has happened in the past, or how old the dryer is, so for all we know, it could be full of moisture and now useless. This now means that if any of the moisture mixes with the oil in the compressor, it turns acidic and starts to rust out my compressor, evaporator, condenser and lines! How stupid are these people?! I don't even do this for a living and I know that! So now, when I get to Perth, I have to take it in to another air conditioner mechanic and get him to pull off the compressor and flush the oil out and put in new oil, then replace the drier, then vacuum the system again and re-gas it, and I have to hope to god that nothing has been damaged internally!

Beside that fact, I asked them to quote me to fix it, not to actually fix it. They should have rung me before filling it with gas if they couldn't find a leak, then ask if I would let them fill it with gas and quote a new price. I didn't have the money available to give them because I am trying to save the money to move to Perth, so now that I have paid them, I am shorter on cash for my trip to Perth, and money to live for the first week until I get paid.

I am so sick and tired of these Muppets up here doing half assed jobs and charging the Earth for the privilege of stuffing up my car. Every single time I need someone up here to do something for me, they stuff it up. Tradesmen in the Pilbara would have to be some of the most useless bunch of moron's I have ever encountered. K&B auto should change their name to K&B cutcorners...

Idiots!!

P.S. I just got my Windows tinted, and had the privilege of being ass f*cked $425 for it, which I find extremely annoying considering it is a coupe and I paid $220 to get my 4 door Falcon tinted in QLD, and a mate of mine has been quoted $275 to get his JZA80 Supra done in Perth, and they are basically the same as my car! Where does the extra $150 come from?!

Pilbara greed.

Troy,
Tint-a-car in Maddington(Perth) quoted me $199 for nice dark tint last week, give them a ring if your coming down(9452 2100). Some places will charge extra to take the old tint off, this could be what the extra $ are for.

My current car got panel/paint damage in Tom Price... no way I was getting the local guys to fix it. I waited until I was in Perth to have it repaired.

Muz, yeah, I did get a quote from them first, and I knew it was going to be that much. Unfortunately up here in the Pilbara, that is the going rate (Or around abouts) because the cost of living up here is so high, and all of the guys that work in the mines (About 80% of the population) are on big money, so everyone jacks the prices right up because:
a) everyone makes more money up here
b) The cost of living is higher
c) there is basically no where else to go, so nearly every shop around here has a 100% monopoly on their business
d) Pilbara is bloody greedy
Even though I had a quote to get it done, and payed it anyway, doesn't mean I was happy to pay it. And the type of tint didn't mae any difference either, the quote was $425 whether I used dark tint, light tint, mirror tint, anything. I ended up with T35 on the rear windscreen and too windows, and T25 on the rear quarter glasses and Sunroof.

Rod, would love to mate, but it has already been done :-( I am moving to Perth in 2 weeks and I wanted it tinted and the air con fixed for the 1700km trip.

Scott, my dad is a fridgy and he told me that they should be able to find it straight away if there is a leak, but if it is really small, they might have trouble finding it, but the dye works straight away, as you said. It does sound like the guy had a pretty good look though, because he mentioned that he had half the dash apart and looked over the evaporator and TX valve and they didn't seem to be leaking.

James, told 10 mates as soon as I got back to the office. Seemed funny to me that when I ask everyone where to take the car to get it's air con fixed, everyone told me to take it to K&B electrical, then when I told them about how they screwed me over, everyone told me I shouldn;t have taken it there and that I should have taken it to this other place in the LIA! I am like WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THIS BEFORE?!!!

Anyways, K&B will most likely never get any more business from my friends from here on in, and I would say that the story will get around because Karratha is a pretty small place. Bad work ethics are just part and parcel with the Pilbara though, as are shortcuts. I can't wait to get back to civilisation where there is competition driving down prices and making people strive to do a better job so that they get repeat business rather than up here where people don't care because they know we will keep coming back because there is no where else to go...

Hehe, im glad I am FIFO to the Pilbara - wouldn't want to live out here, I heard someone say the other day that they are paying 800 bucks a week in rent for a dodgy 3x1 in Karratha!!!

Adam, did you like Tom Price? I only spent about 2 weeks there but I thought it was beautiful, I had a great time there.

Tint they just ream you cause of the type of car.

I got quotes for my audi and $400+ all the time, even when they had on wall tint your Falcadore $199 which have more glass. Now my audi had no existing tint less area of glass and nothing out of the ordinary, just the badge, and the stigma that comes with it.

I wound up using after being referred by quite a few friends to SHADES in Myaree, WA, 0419-930-364(Guys Name is Troy). Good price choice of tint, happy with the job, Soarer will be in to have tint done after compliance. He will be able to quote over the phone as he has done quite a few. Sorry can't give you a figure off top of my head.

Stephen, I didn't mind Tom Price as I knew I was only going to be there for 6 months. Was fresh out of uni so the money was an excellent kick start for car repayments. It's much better than a lot of other mining towns because there are more young people. Did some good trips from there (both work and private). Coral Bay is excellent for a holiday and Point Sampson had some great fishing.
