Hey Guys,

I have noticed recently that my 1UZFE engine misses occasionally when the engine is warm. It is really only noticeable when the engine is idling, but it is definitely dropping a cylinder every 10-15 seconds when warm.

I have recently (in the last 12-18 months) replaced my spark plugs and dizzy rotors, so i'm thinking it could be plug leads perhaps?

Any thoughts on how I could confirm the cause of this problem?

Thanks!

Mark, so many things it could be. Leads arcing, dirty air cleaner, dirty fuel filter, air leak, exhaust leak, blocked cat or muffler, the list goes on.

Hi Mark
You could also try changing the fuel that you use.
ie. higher octane
different fuel station

But Mike is right the list goes on, i like to start with the simple things then move to the hard stuff. I find most times its normally the easy stuff that work.

Thanks Peter,

I agree with Mike that there could be lots of causes, however as it ONLY does it when the motor gets up to temperature (after 10 mins or so driving) I was hoping that this was indicative of a particular or known fault.

I've owned the car for quite a few years and have run it on both PULP and ULP and it has never done this before.

It feels to me like it's an electrical issue, im guessing leads arc-ing, but I'm pretty sure i'm up for a few $'s to replace 8 leads so before I started with that I thought i'd ask for some opinions..

Mark, Measure the resistance of the leads before replacing them.

Just to complete this thread, the specific issue was the ignition lead between the right hand coil and the distributor.

This lead (and coil) is prone to heat damage due to its close proximity to the exhaust manifold:

Mark, i think i may have just discovered what is wrong with my car as the symptoms are the same and i have similarly recently replaced plugs and leads. If so thanks for the heads up.
