Hi All,

Firstly hello to all, and a big thanks to the contributors on this site.

You armed me with the knowledge I needed to find a well looked after Soarer - which I picked up a couple weeks ago, so thanks to you all. She's lovely!

I reset the ECU this afternoon when I was waiting for my girlfriend to get ready, i didn't expect much being a V8 (thanks Peter for your how to do post) but figured why not. It definitely seemed to make her quicker off the mark, less sluggish through the first few gears and a little more nimble.

Only thing is now she's definitely idling rough. This didn't happen after resetting it immediately, it started around 30min later. When i'm stopped at the lights I can feel her shuddering and spluttering a little. It doesn't stall, just bounces the car a little. It's even more noticeable when I first take my foot off the brake, and quickly disappears when I feed her the juice! It returns when i'm braking to a stop. I guess a solution would be to keep my foot on the floor and never brake, but this is obviously not a long term fix :-)

Is this normal and will it go away as she learns how i drive?

If so how soon could I expect it to go away?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome Myles,i don't know about the V8 but when the ECU is reset in my TT it idles rough, cuts out and carries on for a little while.
After 10 or 15 minutes of driving she sorts herself out and comes good.
Someone with a V8 will be along to answer shortly i'm sure

Might just be a coincidence. ECU reset has never caused that in my V8. Sounds like it's idling too low?

Maybe its been driven like a pussy for ages and probably needs new plugs... Once you have goven it a bootful a few times, its possibly fouled them up.. The V8 runs rich from the factory :-)

Yeah i'd also say this isn't because of the reset, drove around a little today and it didn't improve :-(

It's also a little rough and hesitant when lightly accelarating off the mark now, feels almost like a blocked fuel filter. What do bad plugs feel like?

Booked for a service..

Hi again all,

So a bit of an update. I missed mentioning that someone cleaned out my engine bay the same day I reset the ECU, which is the day this started happening, and it sounds like the more likely culprit is moisture affecting my spark.

Searched but have not found a good description on fixing this, but apparently it is easy.

Anyone had this problem with their V8, and what's the easiest way to fix it?

Myles probable your plugs holes are full of water ever time you run the engine it steams but cannot escape.....as Miles Baker says use compressed air to blow it out.

Spark plug holes were full of water!

Had her serviced at Sports & Luxury today where Doug sorted her out.

Unfortunately looks like a few other things need to be replaced over the next couple months though

-Engine Mounts
-Rear transmission mount
-Air conditioner compressor
-Timing belt

Could be worse I guess.

Thanks again for the quick replies!
