Let see how much I spent on timing belt stuff;
$65 belt $15X2 cam seals $35 Crank Seal um....that's it...
Bearing was still in good nik and same as Water pump. The water pump has the indicator with the rubber hose attached to it, when you see coolant comes out from this hose you'll know it's on the way.
timing belt on a TT soarer is the easiest out of all the cars I've worked on.

I can vouch for that. Took me 3 days, (including water pump, but thats a whole nother storey) without allowing for the wasted time waiting for bits to arrive and getting off seized bits and so on.
Once you get all the crap off the front of it It's no harder than any other V8
It would be quicker next time. Only 100 000 k's to go.

Im going to attempt this soon. What are the parts that Im looking at (2JZGE soarer)
So far my list consists of Timing Belt Cam + Crank seal Water Pump Tensioner bearing Idler bearing.
Also, with regards to oils and fluids, what should I be using?
Now my water pump is still OK, non leaking. Should I bother changing it anyway. Also, again with the tensioner and idler bearing, should I bother with that?

i just got a belt from toyota as of the 9/1/08, $76. would anyone have an idea of the cam cover gaskets? i am just about to do my 100000kms service. is there anything i really need to know when changing the timing belt, or is it a pretty straight forward process? I will be having a mechanic friend help me.

We all know that you change your timing belt at 100k service. However, I have been informed that the next time you have to change the timing belt is at 250k,(150k later instead of 100k). Do any of you guys agree or disagree

it makes sense for the 250000km change, as the first 100000km is the stress/breaking in stage, wheras the motor is more 'easy' moving after this period
...ill probably opt for a gates racing belt for $78.... (it looks sooo cool )
