i think i have some bad news, i was hearing turbo squeling so i was reving the engine to see if its a boost leek or a blown turbo then i started to hear knocking in the motor, checked and realized that i was a lil low on motor oil, my question is though, can i change the bearings without taking the motor out? i did it that way with my vr4 galant before but this one dont seem to have much space under there, can someone with experience in this let me know? i figure if its possible i would need to remove the cross member but dont want to mess up the alignment.

not really,
if your game enough to unbolt the cross member, you can get the sump out
i done it roughly 5 days ago, i snapped my cross member in half and cracked my oil sump where the oil feed tube sits.
replaced the entire cross member, sump, pan, lower control arms all with the engine in the car
the trick is, find a LONG pole or heavy wood to put across the top of the engine bay, resting it on the body near where the shocks bolt into the chassis.. and tie a chain or seatbelt around the litttle U-bracket poking out the top of the engine and its safe to unbolt the bottom end.
but, obviously jack the engine up around 2/3cm then tie the chain and drop the engine back down so it rests on the support up top, check the MECHANICAL V8 secion, i made a thread in there roughly 1 week ago titled "HAD A CAR ACCIDENT...." bla bla, theres a link in there to imageshack, with all my rebuild pictures in there and HOW i held the engine up etc.

I would be of the impression that if you have run the bearings dry enough to have destroyed them that quick, then you are also going to have to machine the crankshaft, and that's a motor out job. Just my 2 cents worth

Not to mention the bores and rings, valves guides etc. If the bearings were not on the way out already, then that won't be the only problem that'll need fixing.
