Hot night in Adelaide, spirited driving in hills.

One huge crack in top tank, very messy engine bay.

No permanent damage, stopped immediately, let it cool down, filled with water and idled home.

Shouldn't need a new radiator, just the top tank.

New top tank, complete recondition of radiator including straightening fins, clean, paint etc cost me $200 at Natrad last week. Just pull the radiator out and take it in to them.

Simple.

Or you can spend $900 on a new alloy radiator. Thats as far as I got. Very happy with my reco'd one.

Hmmm I'm a little confused on this.

Just to clear it up,

The top tank is the top bar part of the radiator?

Or are we talking about the plastic reservoir tank thing which has the radiator cap and level sensor on the left hand side of the engine bay?

Mike, TT's don't have the same setup as V8's, no bubble tank with level sensor for one thing.

This discussion has been about top tanks - top bar of the radiator.

V8 top tanks cost more (bigger), and then there is the leaky bubble tank issue which is around $300 to buy and is an easy DIY to replace.

All sorted out, upon inspection the bottom tank was also on its way out so the whole radiator and a number of hoses were replaced.

Took a while to clean all the engine covers.
