I know its a stupid question, but im having a bit of trouble getting the oil level correct on the stick after my first oil change.
Following peters instructions as found in the tutorial page, i changed the filter (horrible job, TT with ABS) drained the old oil, brought some new Fully synth oil filled it to the full mark, ran the engine to let it circulate. i then waited 20 mins and checked the level. It read below the L mark.
I topped it up to just below the full mark, ran the engine again, checked it 20 mins after it had gotten to operating temp and it read full.
This morning when i get up i check it again (after the car has sat for about 12 hours) and it is about 1cm above the full mark.
My question is when the engine is cold EG sitting all night, is it normal for it to be slightly over full mark. Becuase when i run it the oil level drops to about half way in the acceptable level. I am affraid that if i let some oil out to the full mark when it is stone cold, when the car is running there may not be enough oil left in the sump.
ive never experienced this problem with other cars that i have changed the oil in.

If u left it over night and there is 1cm over the top u need to drain out about 750ml....u want it to be right on the line once it stays over night. Roughly 4.5L to 4.75L is how much u need to put in after u drain the old oil.

Guys, the oil filter isnt that hard to take off at all....I think you 2 were just trying to reach it from the wrong side....u need to go down further once u got the car's front up and ull c a big opening....very easy.

I just put the whole 5L bottle into it. Reads full all the time. The oil filter is a real pain to get off if you havent got the right tools. The trick is not to do it up too tight when replacing it.

Oh, and make sure you have a decent jack that can get the front up high enough... haha, or else you'll be sliding around on your ass like a homeless man.

i think the problem with my filter was that when it was complianced it was done up so tight i couldn't get a good grip on it. i tried from up top, hand between the AC pipe and the ABS unit but couldn't get a grip (or tool) on it. So i jacked it up and got it that way.
even when i was underneath it, it was still hard to get enough leverage to undo the filter. My proof that it was done up WAY to tight was that i managed to bend the handle on the filter removing tool.

i made sure i gave it a good coating over the rubber seal before it went back on. Hand tight + 1/4 a turn. i'm confident i should be able to get it off in 5000km time

Ok continuing on with my oil change that has taken over one week to do. (dont ask) i have established that the sump plug has stripped. not the nut its self but the thread inside the sump housing.
I am lead to believe that this can possabley be 're-tapped' or should i just get a whole new sump? if i was to do that is sump removal difficult, as i imagion that there would be oil pickups etc inside.
