for about the past week or two i've noticed that after driving my car even when cruising, once i turn off the engine a few minutes later the coolant starts to make boiling sounds in the overflow bottle. but the temp gauge has never budged from the middle? checked coolant levels, they have never changed either?
any ideas?

Is the hydraulic fan working all the time when it starts to get hot?

It might be a partially blocked radiator. If it's not cooling enough coolant/water, when the car is switched off there's not enough coolant to dissipate the heat when the hydraulic cooling fan is switched off. So the water boils under the engine temp.

Well, that's my attempt at a story anyway.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Could air bubbles in the coolant cause this?

ok, as jason saids, check your fan. if that is all working fine then replace the thermostat as it might not be opening properly. if that doesnt fix it, then get your radiator cleaned.
when your can is cold, start it up pop the hood take the radiator cap off and watch it for a 3-4 mins see if the coolant is bubbling. if so then it i would suspect head gasket.

Remembering, of course, that the TT's have a different fan setup than the V8's.

It could be an air bubble in the cooling system.

Also it would be worth getting the radiator cap pressure tested or replaced, as a weak cap will let the coolant out at a lower pressure.
