Howdy,

We;ve all seen these by now.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SAVE-GAS-FUEL-FITS-Toyota-Prado-Prius-Rav4-Soarer-Yaris_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_tr ksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem5633fc5b65QQitemZ370239363941QQptZAUQ5fCarQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQQsa lenotsupported

I saw my first one a few years ago and it make all these same promises.

I did research and it indicated there may be a little bit of benifit (.01%) but nothing like the %31 percent and certainly no increase in power.

Has anyoen tested these.. anyone with experience with them?

Still looks like a nasty little con to me

My god it pisses me off how people can get away with selling this garbage.

I remember my sister got sucked into buying one of those magnetic fuel canister things for her XJ6 when leaded fuel was banned in NZ many years ago. Total nonsense.

Eventually that particular crowd got called out by a current affairs TV show, but I don't think anyone was ever able to charge them with anything.

There is another one advertising in prime time on TV at the moment the "Biomag" matris protector, a woolen matris protector with little magnets sewn into it. They make claims about its healing properties in the advert - total horseshit.

Then there is the makeup industry...

Pisses me off that politicians sit around making all sorts of stupid laws about smacking your children and election advertising, but ignore the swindle brigade entirely.

Anyway, thats enough ranting!

Actually, Matthew, you might be referring to the FuelStar-type device which contains tin in pellet form. The tin is supposed to stop pinging or something. It was used on the Russian front in Hawker Hurricanes which were designed to run on high octane fuel but the Russkies only had low octane rubbish. So the story goes- I have no idea whether tin in fuel has any application to modern motors.

in the op them things i brought 4 of them

my soarer went from using 16L/100km in regular daily use to producing 3L/100km

2 months ago my tank was empty now its full and im scared to drive cos i think the tanks going to over flow... so im sending mine back, because the power gain of up to 150hp (because im running 4 of them) is too massive and im scared to drive the beast...

i might try fuel line magnets instead with my refund, or a brushless electric computer fan... errrr i mean supercharger...

if they are no good, im told i can buy instructions to make my own flux capacitor.... just i was told be careful if i go 88mph... something about 1985, but thats ok mines a 1991... supposedly it will make 1.21 gigawats at the tyres

Jol, just move your seat forward and your car will accelerate faster than in the old position.
You will find that because your mind is used to pushing the accelerator a certain distance in relation to your seat position, it will feel as if you are moving quicker off the mark. Not only that, but because you are more forward, you will arrive just that bit sooner.

There seems to be a whole lot of bogus products out there that people are getting conned into buying. I mean fair enough as Matt said if you're silly enough to buy something without checking it out thoroughly its your own fault but you think the ACCC or some other regulatory body would do something to stop people being conned

I have a mate who had a sore wrist for years and tried a magnetised wristlet and it cured his pain. Just because we don't understand how it works does not mean that it doesn't work. Scientists don't know how gravity works, but we are pretty sure that it does exist.
In saying that, those fuel savers are rubbish.

Uh, only we do know how gravity works - mass causes curvature in time/space. Plus you can prove it works easily, it will always pass scientific testing, and can be modeled by equations.

A friend losing his wrist pain does not mean a magnet cured it, if it won't pass a double blind test, then its horseshit, and no test of any magnetic healing device has ever passed a double blind test. Regardless of understanding, if results cannot be repeated under test conditions, then you can be sure its made up mumbo-jumbo.

Unfortunately the world is fascinated by made up mumbo-jumbo, so people will always be able to make money out of snake oil.

No placebo affect. I'm talking about a 55 year old man who didn't believe it would work either, but it did and does continue to work. Also he woke up one morning with a sore wrist to find that the chain had broken over night. I'm not saying that this will work on everyone, that would be a ridiculous statement but in certain circumstances it does and just because it hasn't been proven yet doesn't mean it doesn't work. The earth was round long before Aristotle proved it.

Good work on Aristotle but being 55 does not relieve one of the occasional delusion. The fact the earth was round before Aristotle presented the evidence has 3/5 of 5/8 of stuff all to do with Matthew's point that there have been relevant tests of magnetic cures and the null hypothesis has yet to be rejected, whereas Aristotle, within the scientific method of the time, successfully rejected the hypothesis the earth was flat.
