I'm looking at getting an alloy radiator to replace my leaking (and inadequate) standard radiator.
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the chinese made ones sold on ebay. Also, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with swapping the fan on a 1J for thermo units.

Ummm seems like a bit of a wank mate to be honest.
How bout you just get your stocko one rebuilt/reco'd with the new core and top tanks, it will be cheaper and easier.

and inadequate) standard radiator.
^^ what makes you think the stock radiator is "inadequate"? Ive seen some VERY high powered toyota 'JZ series" engines getting around with stocko radiators and they dont have any dramas hey. Im very confident that if you just got a decent one and got it cleaned up / reco'd you would not be able to fault it.

That's interesting because the the starlet in your profile pic appears to have one of those "wank alloy radiators"...
"interesting" ? hardly.
The small alloy radiator was utilised to make room for the custom exhaust manifold, as did the Air Conditioning. Im using a davis craig 12" thermo fan which is hooked up to the stocko fan relay, works well and was actually installed for a good reason.

Thanks for the links Scott, they'll come in handy when I finally buy one of these things. I'm thinking that the thermos are probably not the right way to go.
I was only considering it because I thought the clutch fan was buggered and my shroud is broken.
Both problem are fixed (ish) and I cant se the thermos coming closer to the flow of the standard fan.
spenser im also considering an alloy radiator. my standard one is ok on the street where full throttle is in short burst but at the track I could see the temp creeping up. Keep in mind the standard temp guage wont move from half way until the water temps are around 105-110 degrees.

Yeah, I'll let you know how it goes. Might be a while though, I've got to finish with my suspension and get the car moving before I even think about moving on to the engine..
