Hey fellas, seriously thinking about getting rush extractors on the Soarer in the next couple of weeks. I've got a 2.25 catback with an x pipe, 2x hotdogs & 2 straight through mufflers so far.

My question is to you guys - is ceramic coating really worth it? I know it keeps engine bay temps down, & keeps the heat inside the extractors, but given I'm a little short of money would this coin be better spent on two high flow cats?

Any v8 guys out there who have rush extractors fitted & not got them ceramic coated? How does the car perform too?

Many thanks!

I'd go the ceramic coating first, as the cats can be done much easier later down the track as opposed to removing the extractors.

James, I have ceramic coated Rush headers into 3" dia. high flow cat instead of x pipe.
Very happy with added performance and of course, the sound.

Yeah, I'm thinking I may have to get ceramic coating to keep the temps down. Will it be a different sound having one cat compared to two cats & x pipe?

Can't help you there James as I haven't heard them side by side.
So many different sounds are available because of different materials (steel-stainless steel) brand of mufflers, type and size of pipe, placement of all or any of these.
It's pretty much a trial and error thing as someone might tell you their system sounds great, you do the same and think it sounds s***.

Twin Cats and an X Pipe will give you more power on a V engine.

The X Pipe helps with reducing back pressure and scavenging.

David, it wasn't cheap, figured out earlier today that my whole exhaust system cost me about $2500.

Got a catback originally, that was $550
then Rush headers at about $730ish, ceramic coating was $370 from Jet-Hot in castlemaine (
http://www.jet-hot.com.au/) then, $1000 for the installation of the headers and 2 highflow cats.

Technically there was nothing wrong with my standard headers/cats, but I'd grown tired of just a catback and wanted more.

Has a note to die for now
