Hey guys just looking for some advice from some with more experience than me.
About two weeks ago my car overheated (first time since I bought it over a year ago) and cracked the radiator top tank, got the tank replaced system flushed etc. Since then it's starting to overheat regularly, so obviously the top tank wasn't the problem but seems to have been a side affect of the underlying cause.
It doesn't appear to have any leaks in the system and I've caught it each time it's run hot before it's lost any water so the system definitely has enough water.
As far as I can see that leaves only the water pump, is there any way to check or confirm this before I spend $350 and 15+ hours?
Coincidentally the electric thermo fan that comes on at high temperature also hasn't worked since I got the radiator fixed. This obviously isn't helping but I've driven the car as gently as can be driven on a cool night and still overheated. Seeing as the thermo fan wouldn't normally turn on in these conditions I don't think that is the cause but obviously I'll be fixing that.
The car made 300rwkw at last dyno and so has a pretty massive intercooler blocking the radiator, is it likely the cooling system can't handle it or is the water pump more likely the culprit? I've definitely seen soarers on more power with stock cooling. Also are there any relatively cheap improvements to be made to the cooling system?

There is a pretty good chance if its cooked once it has stuffed up the thermostat. The only problem your going to have with a water pump is a leak or no water flow if the impeller blades on the back corrode away

Ah I did not think of the thermostat but that would also make perfect sense, well It's pretty much the same job so may as well check the impellar blades while I'm at it. Unfortunately on a TT the thermostat is not so kindly placed as it is on the V8 but either way finish uni tomorrow now I have something to do. Thanks!

Mate, I've just practically replaced the whole lot on my car. Very annoying. Had the 100k service done, and then noticed the new water pump was leaking, so that was all fixed up under warranty and a new pump was installed. Soon after, I noticed more coolant on the undertray, turns out the core in my radiator had gone, so I've got a new aluminum one in there now. Sigh, damn this has cost alot!

Yeah can definitely add up quickly, the irony was I was with a friend the day it cracked who had an overheating R31 and we were joking that he should put a 1jz in it because they're bulletproof and wouldn't overheat... on the way home after that conversation she overheated for the first time ever and cracked the radiator I have learnt not to tempt fate ever again
