Sorry to post here, but I am after some general help.

A bloke broke down out the front of my place a few days ago while driving, just konked out. Still has power, does turn over just doesn;t start.

I haven't had a play yet but i'm already thinking fuel pump/blockage.

I'm gonna have a look tomorrow night and buy some "start ya bastard" to ensure my theory is correct.

I'm also going to check for sparking..Ii know nothing of this car but i assume it is a 4/6 cly with .. what's the easiest way i can do this without electricuting myself?

Anything else I can check that might be causing issue?

Sorry the only info I have is that it konked out while driving it, is an auto, battery is working, has fuel.

Poor bloke is just a kid and it's first car, which he just bough (literally - he was driving it home from purchase.. he got ripped off obviously) so i'm trying to do everything i can to help him.

first things first, narrow it down to, air, spark or fuel.

Obviously its getting air (unless somehow the intake has become clogged with something imovable or its sucked in a seagull LOL)

Easiest check is spark, if u dont have a spark tester, a screw driver pushed into 1 of the plug leads and rested near part of the block will tell you.

If theres spark it will arc across to the engine block.

Then next thing is remove the fuel return line and crank it over, if theres a nice solid rush of fuel then it should be fine.

Do that and see what happens

My bet is spark related, most likely the coil has died

fraid so. I had the misfortune of being a apprentice when those things were a late model car and they were still a pile of crap even then.
On the bright side if its a early telstar if it broke the belt they are at least free running a lot of the stuff back then wasn't

Well.... well well.

And the moral of the story is no good deed goes unpunished.

Kid was meant to come around at 7 pm friday, i'd gone out and bought a few things to try and help. 7 roles around.. nothing, 8 comes around .. so i give him a call and he answers. Claims I have called the wrong number, I ask him a few questions and he gets agro and really woogy (if that makes sense to people from melbourne)

I apologise and call the local cop and let the boys deal with it. Car is gone by Saturday night. Story is this kid is missing a few lug nuts (metaphor).

Oh well.
