so my next mission is to flush the diff oil and the tranny oil. my question is how hard are these tasks when compared to changing the engine oil. note i have 2 jackstands and one jack.

also what diff oil is recommended for v8 diffs and what tranny oil( im pretty sure toyota type 4). oh and while someones at it, what power steering fluid..i cant seem to find any decent ones at supercrap

for the auto

i dropped the cover and checked the filters. they were clean and dropping the cover was a prick. i would just drain the oil and refill as above.

for the diff, just drain and fill with a cheap pump you can buy with the diff oil.fill untill it starts to runout.

both very easy.

Very true. I got some diff oil on a clean cloth that had a use for me. I washed it so many times over a period of months and it still stank!

If you know the history of your transmission filter, its probably OK to just leave it in there. Of course dropping the transmission sump will give you a good idea what shape the trasmission is in by the state of the magnets.

Otherwise just disconnect the upper cooler line and pump the old fluid out a litre at a time, topping up with new as you go - repeat until fluid leaving the line is clean and red. You have an A340E, so definitely use Type IV or equivalent.

Its an easy but messy job.

Diff oil, use any quality oil recommended for RWD vehicles. I use Castrol myself - cant remember the weighting. They usually come with a "straw" in the top that lets you pump it in. you will need about 1.6 litres, so two 1 litre bottles. As Tom said, undo the top filler bolt (allen key) first, then the drain bolt, clean the metal shavings off the drain bolt while the old fluid drains, replace the drain bolt, and fill via the filler hole, and then replace that one too. All done! Very easy job, undoing the bolts can be a pain in the arse, other than that no problems.

Power steering fluid, just use Dexron III or equivalent ATF fluid.
