im looking at installing my subs and mono block in the near future and have been told i would need a new heavy duty alternator and secondary battery. subs and amp are 3000w/1500wrms. Just wondering how much a good alternator would cost me and where I could get one from.

The point is that his is fine. He's looking for one able to handle more power draw for his over-the-top sound system

it is possible to get your alternator rewound to give you a little more omph..but im not sure how much this would cost, or how much current it can output.

heres one..180amps AUD270:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1994-LEXUS-LS400-SC300-SC400-ALTERNATOR-180AMPS-_W0QQcmdZViewIte mQQhashZitem518df697ddQQitemZ350274099165QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1065wt_7 54

more:

the issue with getting one reconditioned here in australia is that its going to set you back a minimum of 200..and then getting it rewound would be more..much better to just get these, and a lot of the folks on clublexus run these alternators so they arent half bad. if you dont like non oem stuff, you might be able to find some rewound oem denso ones too..
