G'day all. I am after some technical information/opinion. I Currently have an oil cooler and remote filter etc on the track car all fitted with AN-10 fittings.
I have a new oil cooler which has AN-6 male fittings.
Is there going to be major grief if I somehow fit this up via reducers etc? My concern is that the internal diameter of the oil cooler (and connections) may be too great a restriction on the engine oil system.
I will go out and check the OD of the factory oil cooler (the one on the side of the block) because I think it may be pretty small like -6 as well.
As the oil cooler and remote filter setups I currently have are generic (non engine/vehicle specific) they may have used -10 to cover all bases?
The next question is how to fit it- ie can I get -10 male to -6 female reducers etc?
If this is oil cooler is not going to work, I don't know what to do...

Hmmmm. In regards to fittings, there is a -10 -6 reducer that requires the female to female coupler as well. (so four seperate pieces to get the lines onto the cooler)
-6 is funny, its more like factory fuel hose/PS size.
Id like to know if it would be appropriate for an engine oil size too, but like most generic coolers, mine is -10 as well.

Ok here goes. Take this with a pinch of salt, but, the guy over the back fence is/used to be a mechanic. He thinks it will be fine as the cooler is a very low restriction design.
I measured the hard lines on the factory oil cooler on the side of the block. They are about 1/2 inch, although thinking about it they might carry coolant not oil. (I have never pulled one off to look at it).
I might have to email Andrew and see what size his oil cooler fittings are.

Ben if you a talking about the factory oil filter housing then yes its coolant that flows through it. i cant see any major problem with reducing from -10 to -6 as old mate over the back fence has said the cooler will be a low restriction design. and even if you have a cooler that is -10 it will only flow so much. yes the -6 cooler will slow the flow a bit but you might find you will get a lower temp with the smaller system and after all your not talking about oil that is under even 300 psi let alone a few thousand.
cheers matt

Cheers, Matt.
I'll get around to putting it on sooner or later and then we'll find out for sure. I might look around for an oil pressure gauge that reads higher than 100PSI first so I can see what is happening.

best of luck Ben my one and only advice left is i wont run rubber lines again after i split a hose and killed the 1j so when i put in my trans cooler i put in the Teflon hoses with s/s braid lol
cheers matt

The kit came with rubber hose and push on fittings. That is why I want to run my -10 braided hose. It is still rubber, but at least it is braided and has fittings I know are reliable at 150 PSI.

try earls and speedflow site. I would link them but im on my phone. Between them there is massive assortment of random adaptors and if you get a speedflow part number i can see what price i can get i know someone who deals with them and can usually get better prices

ok there is a -10 female to -6 male... so you you would have to get a few adaptors to do it.. as in -6 to -8 adaptor and a -8 to -10 adaptor. http://www.speedflow.com.au/reducers.html
would it be easier to get a cooler made the same dimensions from earls or pwr with -10 fittings? or possibly have a new weldon fitted?
try contact them they may be able to make a custom adaptor
