Ahoy ahoy all, I had an argument with a mate of mine over the autos for soarers... he claimed that you can rev the car in neutral and then drop it into drive to get a fast take off but I strongly disagreed stating that it would blow up the gear box if not at first but over time. How crazy! This argument has been going on for a while and whenever hes in the car he wants me to do it, but i'm not stupid... Can i have some clarification from you guys? Some backup perhaps? I know the gearboxes are strong but they're not designed to do that!

Don't do it. It'll crunch / grind and NOT do the car any good. Kinda like slamming the car into reverse going 80k's along the h'way hehe.

It works fine on a VT commonwhore renta-car. I would never try it in my own car, though.

morgs/jeff: that has been my argument back! this is the same guy who asked if there was any way to get the bov sound on an NA car. I directed him to that crappy airhorn that was posted on this site, but then promptly told him that if he got it, i would have to beat him. twice.

Actually , the car won't crunch & grind if you select reverse while driving. I accidentally flipped it into reverse at 60kmph , the other day. The result was rear wheel lockup & skid & then instantaneous engine cut out. Fortunately there was no one behind me. My hand brushed the gear lever on the top , which pressed the detent button allowing it to select reverse. I don't recommend you try it , but no damage to the box ( so far , so good !!)

Been there, seen that. The selector let go before the gearbox, in the old holden V8 that was given the nuetral to park trick a few times too many.

I used to do it in an old Dodge Challenger .... well it's old now but wasn't then. It could instantly blow both rear tyres when shifted into reverse at 60kph! (496CU with blower). Never hurt anything (except tyres) but I wouldn't do it now.

Just get hold of one of the labelling machines and make your own. That's what I did. Should have made a pile of them while I had it and sold them on her for $10 each

I have heard of a guy who used to drop it from 2nd to 1st as the lights went green at the drags. It was a 1j Cressida making some pretty big power as it was lifting the front wheel off the ground! The box didn’t last too long though from what I understand.

| Drop a Jag box into gear at high revs and it will kill it !! Do the same on a Merc box and it will just smoke up the wheels. Cool ! I have a feeling that it may just kill the lex box but who knows ??
