Hey guys. When i bought my car just two weeks ago. It was not boosting. there was a code on the dash, it was engine electrical problem. So i did a diagnostic and code was 13. So i ordered some cam sensors. Then i realised that the little lug on the cam that runs passed the sensor had broken off. So i have now put another ex cam in it. Did a timing belt and put car back together. Started it up, started beautiful. no code came up. So i was all excited thinking it was going to drive properly and boost. and no. FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Also i drove it about 2ks and it overheated. My dash temp gauge is not working. so i didnt realise til i could smell that obvious overheating smell. So today i am going to check all cooler lines. check the rear turbo is spinning. pull exhaust off and make sure its not blocked, and check actuators.
I have checked front turbo it seems fine.
What else should i check?? it has a boost controller and boost gauge installed . but they need power. should i hook up the power and see if its actually building boost?? I can hear the turbos moving air but its not boosting at all. Also could my radiator be blocked?? or stuffed thermostat maybe??
oh and i also picked up a set of dumps yesterday. Second hand from a wrecker. was just at the right place at the right time. 150 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hooked up the boost gauge. It gets to 0 and goes no further. But as its hooked into the intake that doesnt surprise me. Once it cools down im going to try wiring the wastegates shut to see if that will get it to boost. if not. it may be turbo's off time.

i'd be very concerned about over heating the engine.. what signs came up that it was over heating... especially if the gauge isn't working.
what vacuum line is the gauge plugged into? not that i think it matters to much. it is meant to be on the intake side of things, as thats where you want to know how much boost is being shoved into the manifold aka boost pressure..... but the boost could also being affected by the controller if its telling the waste gate to stay open all the time.
but yeah i'd definitely be getting them power. is it a mechanical gauge?? if so the power is normally just for the little backing light and not to run the gauge.
how are you sure its not boosting... does the car just run like poo right through the rev range?
yer pretty much . like a slug, I gave power to the boost gauge. its reaches 0 but no higher. Its an electronic gauge. I could smell the engine overheating and when i pulled up i could hear it boiling. I think i have the temp gauge working now. it seemed to work earlier when i hooked up the boost gauge and took it round the block. Gonna go out soon n check the actuators, and i may even pull the exhaust off and see if that makes a difference.

dum question but you have been through the whole intercooler system to check for leaks it doesn't take much of a leak for it to build no boost. Could be as little as a loose hose clamp and join expanding under boost . also you say you can here turbos working any way of describing noise
I have checked all hoses. Everything seems to be fine. I can hear a turbo but im not sure if its both. And if one isnt spinning then the pressure would be lost out of it from the other. Wen i drive it i can here the turbo whistle but not overly loud. Starts maybe at 2500 or so. But who knows if its both or not. Im hoping its a stuck actuator or something simple. Otherwise my tax return will be going toward a turbo rebuild.
OK so we have boost again. Funny how a blocked cat can cause me to go grey prematurely . Thanks to everyone that helped out. Blocked exhaust was one theory i had, i dont think they neighbours like me anymore
This is how I got the car 2 weeks ago. The last owner did not know what was wrong so I knew I was in for some trouble. Yer it was loud lol. Missus heard me hit boost. She is happy its fixed too
