lol this thread is mad i have used the webbing removal tool many times its not fun or easy and the first few times i needed another pair of hands to hold it while i got the ratchet in place but you can soon do it on your own. the best thing i have found is the drift filters they have a 17mm nut braised on the filter body and is not a rounded sheet metal piece of crap like the k&n one, makes life a lot simpler

Yeah- I had to search through my store of large sockets from motorcycling days, only to find I couldn't get at the stupid K&N nut with the ratchet anyway I think I used one with two or three toothed segments when I changed oil recently, but it's never easy and I always lose skin. At least this time there were no burns as I did it with engine cold.

dayyyum Justin that is WRECKED! haha how much is on the engine mounts still?
One day I will get a relocation kit, but for now I just unplug any wiring harnesses nearby and take out the auto trans dipstick (sucks when I forget to and try and pull the filter up - get stuck on the dipstick and it falls out of my hand!) and out of the 5 or 6 filter changes I have done now, only 1 or 2 have been a real biatch.
Surprisingly I have success with the round metal one - just working it a few mm at a time as there really isn't enough room to use it properly, but with it gripping right up near the inlet manifold, I can pull down about 5cm which translates to a few mm on the filter - but after a minute or two of that, its free enough to spin off by hand.
Always end up with bruises on the underside of my forearm, I think the culprit is the air conditioning piping and the connector that sticks up!

Do Toyota have a SST oil filter removal tool for the 1JZ? I've got one that fits 4A/7A/3S and it makes oil changes soo much easier, it grips the whole diameter of the filter and has both a ~14mm hex (for socket or spanner) and 3/8" square for a ratchet handle
