Buggering around under my TT this morning I noticed one of the front shock absorber's rubber gator (if that's what it's called) has completely split about 3 inches from the bottom.

The shocks themselves seem ok so it might only just have happened.

Is it possible to replace these gators myself? Or would it need to be done by a mechanic?

Anyone know the best place to get the gator's?

Sorry Trevor but I have never heard of a "gator" can you perhaps describe it or posting up a pic of the offending part may help?

I think he's talking about the rubber dust cover / sleeve that goes overs the shocker to prevent rust and dirt getting to the piston?

If so it's pretty easy to replace, just have to remove the shocker. would need a set of spring compressors though.

I'd imagine a universal one would do the job?

Possibly something like this:

Ah, all good. Looks like Jesse's on it, so there you go Trevor. Not a real fun job though.

Yup that's the thing guys.I don't know where I got the word 'gator' from but being a Pom, it could be a word used over there which I've somehow picked up without knowing it. Funny thing, the mind.

Actually I saw this morning it's only the lower 45 mm or so that's hanging loose so I might just tape it up.

It doesn't sound like it'll be the end of the world if I do that as the shockies themselves are fine.

Thanks guys.

I wouldn't even worry about it - glue it up with some silicon or something - they don't really do a lot.

Thanks Matthew. I reckon black electrical tape will do the job.
