Hi guys, I have a torsen LSD which I bought off Dan Savage maybe 2 years ago and whenever I turn the car the rear tyres chirp the whole way around, exactly like a locker diff would do. I've only noticed this chirping over the past year, but the diff has always made a rusty whirring noise since the day I bought it and I found a handful (7 from memory) of small teeth broken off inside the diff when I drained the oil when I first installed it. My last set of rear tyres lasted 6 months with no burnouts.
Is it possible for these diffs to lock themselves up somehow? And if so, can it be fixed?

Pity you didn't contact Dan when you drained the diff oil when you first got it, I know I would have as unfortunately for you its now to late & I would be worried about some fine particles if I drained the oil let alone 7 actual chunks off the gears ...

Don't know much about torsen diffs, but a regular open diff isn't worth repairing when bits of metal come out of it - you just hiff em and find another one. Might be totally different for an LSD as they are a lot more valuable.

I can't remember exactly at the moment but I assume some LSD 80-90 gear oil. I got it from my brother so Ill have to confirm from him.
I don't mind the fact that it chirps, and it still feels strong, but my last tyres lasted 6 months, and the set which I bought to replace these in mid Nov 2013 are half gone already... this seems extreme, and that is with only a few slight wheelspins due to loss of traction when flooring it.

What are the tyres and how many KM's have you done on them? Even softish compound road tyres should easily last more than 20,000km with normal use - depending on what kind of driving you are doing of course.
I run Toyo Proxes 4 which are a fairly soft tyre, and get around 30,000km's at most out of my rear tyres - I replace them before they get to the indicators though as I'm fussy about tread depth.
I've been told a lot of cheaper brand tyres out of Malaysia etc. are not properly vulcanised and will wear very quickly because of this - but I'm not sure if this is true.

I think they are Falkens, just cheap ones but I've always used cheap tyres and they've lasted up to 2 years previously. The previous tyres were a different brand. I doubt I have done over 5000kms yet with these, and completely normal city driving.
My front tyres are golden bridge, another cheap brand, and still have maybe 50% tread left after 1.5 years of driving... so something doesn't add up.

If the wear is uneven across the tread, might be a good idea to check all your rear suspension and subframe rubbers and bushes & that everything is straight - otherwise yeah, must be the diff.

If the rear tyres are chirping the whole way around a corner when you turn I would think the Diff is the Cause of your Tyre wear as you can gather it's scrubbing the inside rear Tyre every time you turn a corner & the tighter the corner the more the Tyre wear, as you said in your first post it sounds like the Diff has locked up, possibly from more bits of broken teeth jammed in the torsen LSD part of the diff ?? ..
