Hey guys.
I think the axle tramp i experienced at the drags the other night caused an engine mount to crack (or at least the one i can see well).
I know that the soarer ones are around $280, and the supra ones are a bit cheaper and stiffer. Is there any other alternative any cheaper than the supra one?

most soarer engine mounts are broken anyways even the ones that look ok.pay particular attention if your engine seems like its on a slant .as Rob hayden found out was very expensive to repair with a cracked sump as the engine was sitting on power steering lines.

i have supra ones and they are great

why is it better to have stiffer? would it not be better to have new stock mounts as they have more a cushion effect?

So engine doesn't move around as much. You'd be surprised how much it moves under the loud pedal, especially if its not standard power.

Thanks guys. I ordered some supra mounts today. Same as soarer ones but much stiffer. Will this help the problem i'm having with axle tramp?

Im not sure if this problem your having with axle tramp has alot to do with your engine mounts?

Im no expert but i always thought stuffed shock absobers were the cause of it.

I may very well be wrong, but i think thats more likely the cause?

Well, i got some supra mounts and changed them this afternoon. To my surprise, it actually went well, no great difficulties! Also to my surprise, i discovered that both mounts had completely split in two! It may not have had much to do with axle tramp, but it certainly wouldn't help!

I've got a set of Kazama engine mounts which I bought locally, but havent put them in yet.

Is there a step by step process to replace engine mounts online?

It's not hard mate. Just make sure you undo the radiator shroud FIRST!!
Undo the nuts on the top of the mounts, Jack the car up and rest on axle stands. Then undo the nuts on the bottom of the mounts. Using a trolley jack (preferably), some blocks of wood, and a large block to spread the load, jack the engine carefully under the sump. You will need to lift it a fair bit. Pull out the old mounts, insert the new ones and lower the engine slowly, making sure that the bolts go into the holes. Put the nuts on the bottom, lower the car, put the top nuts on. Put the car back together and whala! Took dad and i about 2hrs total.
Now, does anyone have a spare radiator fan shroud...

Hehe :-)

Adam: good instructions. I don't know why but I had always thought of doing it the harder way by lifting the whole engine out via hoist. Glad I didn't try that :-)

Cheers Neil, I'm DIYing them this weekend along with the tranny mount.

BTW for all Soarer/Lexus spare parts I thoroughly recommend James Sloane from Castle Hill Toyota (

yeh i just done my mounts on friday.. took me bout 5 mins but i have a bit of experience as apprentice mechanic.. one thing i noticed though is watch the intercooler pipes dont stretch too far when u jack the engine up as u can damage them, mine had a vibration on highway speeds under slight throttle.. i got mine out and they were a 2 piece design too!!! hahahaha but the vibration went so i was happy!! :-) but i found an oil leak from my turbo oil return line and drips onto exhaust so now it blows smoke under acceleration when the exhaust heats up!!! so more stuff 4 me to fix!!
