Hey guys. Im dead set keen on a manual transmission conversion on my Soarer V8 and have seen a user or two mention they could complete the task. I could spend a lot of time sourcing all the parts and having my fingers crossed my mechanic could do the job, or come to a good resource (SC) where someone could do it, and do a good job! Is anyone these days still up for the job, regardless of which state they live in? Thanks

Id be happy with either, but leaning more to W58. I'm not after a cheap/nasty job but my guess is the W58 parts would be easier & cheaper to source and the job itself is easier, right?

Mathew, have you decided which trans you want, because while the R154 is often the more desirable trans due to strength, the W58 is actually the (far?) nicer box in terms of changing gears, and (providing it is not in poor condition) will handle more power than the v8 can ever muster.

The w58 box from the N/A mk4 Supra is stronger then a standard W58. This is what you should get if you get a w58. If you clutch dump and slam gears you should go a r154. Also if you like selecting tall gears like 3rd or 4th and flooring it at low speeds and low revs it places massive load on the box. Remember even a 1jz turbo wouldn't make the same amount of torque as the 1uz does below 2,000rpm.
I personally destroyed a w box on a stock 1uz flooring it in 3rd at 1,200rpm. It sounds unreal when fit plods along in a tall gear. Did it all the time and after a couple of years went bang.
