When I was giving my engine bay a bit of a clean today, I brushed up against the coolant overflow hose near the radiator cap. The hose came off along with the plastic bit where the hose is clamped to. So essentially the plastic bit has broken off and is inside the hose. Obviously the coolant cannot flow through properly now and I have a dribble of coolant from where the broken plastic bit meets the hose. I tried to use a hose clamp but the clamp has nothing to hold onto. Will this require a new top tank to fix? I added a few pics to try and explain better.

You may be able to superglue / epoxy that bit back on as it's not pressurized.

Unless you gave it a fairly good "brush", then it might be a good indicator that the top tank has gone brittle and is about to fail.

Actually, in the first photo, under the cap on the front of the top tank it looks like it might be on the way out.

For a couple of hundred bucks it could be some piece of mind to do the top tank asap.

What you have is a piece of plastic pipe that's in two. If you can get another piece of pipe of not too thick a bore that will neatly fit inside and glue all together -ABS/PVC glue which ever is best. Then once set you can put back your hose and Fanny's your aunt.

Yeah I figure I may as well replace the top tank as the inevitable cracking will one day occur. When the top tank is replaced, do they flush all the coolant out or only a bit of it as I flushed the entire system only a few weeks ago so its got brand new coolant in it.

You'll have to remove the whole radiator. (or they will) You could drain the coolant into a bucket and re-use it.

I gave a few places a call about prices but most said it would take about a week for the part to come in so I thought I might as well try some superglue. Let it dry for a few hours then had a look when I got home from work and it seems to have held on OK. Hopefully the plastic bit in the hose has aligned properly with the broken off piece and there was no evidence of any leakage so all good it seems . I'll probably still end up getting the tank changed sometime soon though.
