Hey guys, a quick question , im in the process of ordering some headers through Neil @ Rush, and I was considering Thermo wrapping them for obvious reasons, but the exhaust mechanic said that Thermo wrapping the headers will destroy them, apparently it will heat the steel to much and after a while, of heating and cooling they will fall apart, is ceramic coating simply a better option, if I can scrape some more money together.
Cheers

Just leave the pipes bare. If your worried about heat, remove the plastic plate under the engine to let some air in.

The exhaust shop may be able to make up some heat shields but if I recall correctly, there no threaded bolt holes on the headers to attach the shield.

Do get them Ceramic Coated - definitely get them coated !!!!!!!!!

Don't remove the plastic cover under the engine, it actually directs air UP into the engine bay. Removing it will have the opposite effect.

I agree with Justin, dont remove cover under engine!,my car has no noticeable increase in cabin floor temperature after fitting non coated headers, but the cats do have heat shields.

Opposite actually, it sucks air OUT of the engine bay, but the affect is identical.

And yes, my exhaust guy said the exact same thing about wrapping the extractors when he built them.

They are now off getting bling HPC'd at "Competition & Industrial Coatings" in Kelmscott.
Only ones in Perth who can do it AFAIK.
$430ish was the quote.
Thats for bling silver, or black. A double coat of black is $550ish.

I'll pick them up monday next week, I'll post pictures then.

Cheers, no heat wrap , ill go for the ceramic coating too, Andrew, do you recomend these guys in Kelmscott, for the job, $430 ish sounds reasonable enough.Does double coating actually have any benifits, or is it just more cosmetic? I just want a flat black + I just want to keep the heat down aswell as preserve the life of my headers.
Cheers again fellas.

I don't so much recommend them, as this is the first thing I've had them do for me, and I haven't seen the results yet.

BUT, they are the ONLY place in Perth that I know does it, so your only other option is to box them up and send them over east.
Or get Neil to get them coated before he sends them over, depending on how much extra it is.

The dude said to me, assuming the single coat drops the heat by 30%, a double coat will drop it another 20%, so a 50% drop in temps total.

Flat black and bling silver are the same cost.
Whole headers have to be the same, I asked about just getting the visible bits bling, and the rest black, no can do.

Only problem with bling silver is that it can dull off if the headers get too hot.
