Over the past few months the question of fuel consumption has popped up many times... especially with V8's..Now there seems to be thing that has been missed the thermostat.. the function of the thermostat is to make the engine run at 82c now if the engine dosn't reach the correct temperature the ECU assumes the engine is cold and delivers more fuel a bit like the old choke system... so if your temp guage dosn't reach halfway and stay there consider changing the thermostat you may find that it makes a noticable differance in your fuel consumption especialy during winter... cheers guys

Yep, saw something like this on another forum yesterday. Apparently a lot of the Jap mechanics will cut the guts out of thermostats to "prevent" them breaking again, but cause the engines to run much cooler than expected.

very true Simon just to add a bit more many thermostats can still be operative but function at a lower temperature All injected engines need to run at the correct temperature or excesive fuel consumption is the result... when the thermostat is working correctly the engine will reach operating temp in about 2km and never drop below that

Good point Robyn - hadn't thought of that.
