Just wondering if this sounds reasonable. I put $83.10 worth of BP Ultimate 98 into my soarer (there was about 6L left in there), from memory that was about 68L of fuel. According to the fuel graph (EMV Equipped) I will get approximately 450-480k out of that tank. Would you guys consider that unreasonable? I'm pretty light footed on the car these days and I do 90% of the time city driving. I was thinking about reseating the fuses after 10 minutes so the car can re-learn my driving habits (I never did this because the car sat for weeks with no battery in it at the compliance yard.) I assume this was a definite equivalent. Also I noticed that when you press the Fuel button on the dash instead of saying how much fuel in Litres, it just says "FUEL FULL". Normally it tells me how many litres, just found that odd... Thanks!

David, it reads full until it has dropped about 10 litres. Your consumption is probably within expectations for city driving by my experience.

Damn I'll try the fuse reset and see if it makes any difference. One other thing I'd ask though, the realtime fuel usage graph is very erratic, alot of the time it just sits on what I'd call 13L/100K (the line above 12). It's very inaccurate until I've settled at one speed for at least 1 minute.. Has anyone else noticed this realtime meter and the graph to be very accurate?

David The real time fuel usage is a reflection of the actual fuel consumption at any given time what you need to understand is that the ECU is constantly altering the fuel mixture to the varients at any given time... eg Air temp, Engine temp, throtle position, engine load. the easiest way to ilistrate this is with the cruse control on flat ground.. you will notice once you appear to have a constant fuel consumption just swing the steering wheel side to side slightly ( to increase the load on the engine) and watch the change in fuel reading.. I have found that the best way to guage the fuel consumption to to use the other trip meter that gives you total Kms and fuel usage as it remains stable as you drive and dosen't drive you crazy .....

Do you mean on the same window on the screen? I assume you're talking about the DTE reading at the top, or the graph? I didn't know about another one...

You should also be aware that the fuel graph on the EMV is displayed as KM/Litre, not Litres/100km. So when it reads 12KM/Litre, it means ~8.3L/100KM.

Wow Jason, that helps heaps! Here's me thinking I was chewing more like 12L/100K! I'd still like to find out about this other trip meter Robyn.

On your EMV you have touch screen buttons along the bottom. The button that's second from the right. It gives you a list of the last five (i think) trips you've done with the date, time taken, distance travelled, and the last column is the fuel used (in litres to one decimal place). If you are using 10 litres per 100kms then the fuel used will be one tenth of the trip distance (simply move the decimal place to get one tenth). You'll get a rough idea if you're using a bit more or a bit less than that.

That makes sense, thanks Tim. I've noticed that screen, but I was more under the impression that Robyn meant another 'realtime' display.

When you push the button on the far right bottom you will then also have another button at the top right, press that button to change the readout screen.

David - I think Robyn meant to use the normal trip meter function on the dash, and compare that with the "Fuel left" function.

I guess its fair enough to expect lower than 12 liter per hundred but if you really have a problem with fuel consumption you could have purchased a Corolla

Consumption will be poor around town, even on a light throttle. Sorry. You can hope for 10L/100km on a long highway cruise. I get around 12.5 around town but Canberra is a pretty open place to drive. The comment made by Michael above applies to pre-94 cars and switches the progressive display (not the instantaneous bar on the right) from three minute to one minute increments. '94 and later cars do not have this. I normally watch the "Km to empty" display (at top when using second button from right on the EMV) and add it to the trip meter (zeroed every fill up) to see how I am going.

David, Do you reset trip A or trip B when you fill up???

Trip A, which I normally display. I use Trip B for service intervals. For trips there is the Last Four Trips display on the EMV, but mostly I do not care about that.

True, I had forgotten that. I had never bothered to set them because IIRC the service items are in Japanese. I might have another look. Do you use them?

I will when I get my EMV sorted. The screen is perfect, the trip computer and fuel consumption don't work. They go (top to bottom) Oil, Oil filter, Tyres, Calendar. With the car in park, press and hold the yellow button for 2-3 seconds to reset each one.

| About this time last week I had just returned from driving my UZZ31 from auckland down to the south island for a 9 day roadtrip. All up we did a total of 4,200km and after i did the numbers the fuel consumption came to a very satisfying average of 9.5L/100km

| Very good Mark. And how is the suspension treating you, as in: Are you now well pleased that you spent the spondoolies on original Air-bags?

| Definitely pleased that the money was spent. Putting it another way, I feel better about it knowing that the car is as it should be, and that I can now hopefully drive it without listening out for weird sounds or bracing for impact when driving over a catseye. When we were on a nice bit of road, the ride was superb, though I did find I was using the 'TEMS Sports' button alot more as the ride I found to be a bit 'wallowy' in some (not all) conditions (too much soft bouncing and swaying?). I always turned off TEMS when going through roadworks or (gasp) on unsealed roads of course. I've not had to use the Height switch much at all, and when I do use it, the difference is not as pronounced as it was before I replaced the airbags. Weird. However on poor roads I can still get a nasty shudder if you hit a seemingly small pothole or crack. I think the weight of the car is the main disadvantage as the whole cabin can shudder quite noticeably . I'm obviously not trying to hit potholes but I still get a bit of shock at how violently the car can shake when hitting perhaps a recessed manhole cover, when I thought new airbags and new bushes would keep me cocooned some photos of the trip here- a 'few' of the car of course. http://homepage.mac.com/markdonovan/Soarer/PhotoAlbum86.html that's big brother Matt in the photos.
