I have pretty much finished the BFI but i cant get the bonnet to close properly with the cover on it. I have used 2mm plastic and tried screwing those rubber plugs in the bonnet out a bit and it still wont close, any suggestions? Mine looks just like the top out of the BFI tutorials ( Its a BFI3 on a 94 V8)
Firstly I'd like to say good job. Looks very nice, clean, professional and stock looking.
From your original post you did not mentioned if you have tried closing the bonnet without the top cover. Maybe try this first (so without the top cover and its associated screws, unless they are not screws then I don't know as I can't make it out from the picture itself) and if this fails then you knows your problem lies elsewhere.

Firslty Awsome job there mate. Looks awsome.
Im guessing maybe the reason for not closing is:-
Looking at the last picture, On the far Drivers side of the New top plate you have made. Where you have made a lip that runs over the inside lip of the Inside quarter Skirt!
Maybe this Far Drivers side Lip you have may be stopping your bonnet from closing. IS there any way you can Run that Edge of your Top Cover underneath the Rail which you currently have it on top of?
Try tucking this bit underneath and then see . Some cars are very fussy with clearances down these tracks!

Thanks Rhong and Daniel, yes it does close without the cover. Once the cover is on and bolted in it will lock into the bonnet latch but requires a good push to close entirely.
Daniel by the look of things this is the only place it could really be creating problems although they didn’t have any issues with the BFI3 in this area and it also goes over the quarter panel lip. http://planetsoarer.com/BFI3/bfi3.htm
I will have a play with it and let you know how I go.

An advantage of using 5mm rubber under-bonnet insulation from Clark Rubber as the top enclosure is that it is easily cut and fitted and anything in the way of bonnet closure simply squashes, so no problems are created. It is not transparent though

It seems to be closing fine now ??lol I have just used 2mm plastic and tin snips to cut it, it was very easy. But if you use 5mm rubber let us know how you go

Well I had it with just the open front and bell mouths and it was a noticeable improvement, I was wrapped. Now I have done the top cover it is even better, would 100% recommend this mod to anyone
* intrude: enter uninvited; "They intruded on our dinner party"; "She irrupted into our sitting room" * erupt: erupt or intensify suddenly; "Unrest erupted in the country"; "Tempers flared at the meeting"; "The crowd irrupted into a burst of patriotism"

Nice tries Mike and Will (and the latter's defs meet my intention anyway) but I will stick with the Oxford "invade; enter forcibly", or you might prefer the variant (of birds or other animals) "migrate into an area in abnormally large numbers"

Thanks Jeff. I wasn't sure just how hot it actually got under the hood. The benefits of a non-turbo keep on mounting up. There's less heat. There's ummmm... less heat...ohhh crap. Can't remember the rest right now, but I will.
