My turbo set-up currently has a K&N pod with a 4inch inlet and it looks like its falling apart.
I took the cooler pipes off and found a small amount of filter particles/fabric type stuff in the entry chamber. Yes, i know this is very bad, especially for the turbo, thats why im replacing it.
I bought an Apexi Power Intake (below) for about $70 without an adapter, but im a bit unsure on how much power it can handle. (I have around 250RWKW) Every review ive seen says that its flow and cleaning ability is far superior to K&N and other filters.
My question is, should i go and get a 4 inch custom adapter made up for the apexi which is about $60!!!
OR should I buy another K&N Filter and have possibly the same issue down the track.
What about other filters? any better?
Any help, or advise would be very appreciated. Ben

If you're running a pod, Apexi is probably the best from what I have heard. I'm only running a K&N as I get them for free from time to time and my car didn't come with an airbox.
Power handling is really a problem for an air cleaner as they aren't under any stress from the power that you produce. The only problem that you may encounter is that the engine isn't able to draw enough air in through it to generate that power. And seeing the stock intake on a TT is only 2,3/4" anyway, a 4" throat on a pod is only there if you're running a monster single turbo setup.
Apexi make a pod with a 3" sleeve? If not, just go out and get the adapter if you really want to run that filter.
Also, steer clear of HKS filter. Not too sure where that thread went that tested a few pods, but the HKS one came up last, by a LONG way.

hey ben, check my profile buddy, i do have a monster turbo
I was talking to a Turbo guy the other day and he said that a smaller pod needs to have the best flow rate as it will encounter more psi per square inch of filtration, which makes sense.
I heard on supraforums someone is using a Apexi Power Intake and making over 300rwkw, so i think it should be fine

I did have a small improvement in my old blue soarer, though i had an exhaust as well, mainly just induction note. With just the POD alone you really wont be able to notice the difference between it and a clean/new toyota item. The BMC filter i used was proven to gain HP on most motors and the same filtration material is used in F1. The main pro factor for the pod is that it could flow at a higher rate over more filtration area.
Unfortunately, oiled filters are now illegal in qld unless boxed
