I have been driving a 92 V8 soarer for the last 6 years.. Last week I started the engine, it ran smoothly as usual than all of a sudden started running rough and eventually stalled..
So far, I have checked the altenator for red fluid(None), battery charges to 14+ volts.
I have reset the ECU, I have bypassed fuel ECU with Paper clip.(Same)
Now If i rev it up to 2000 it eventually idles ok But I took it for a drive running rough , I noticed that the exhaust downpipe was red hot!
The Cat light came on and off..a few time.. The mixture is not right as it just smell terrible.
I have also replaced the spark plugs..
From what I gather the ECU is getting the wrong input from a sensor. The weather here has been very dry for months. It rained last week. Maybe the moisture in the air shorted a component or sensor !!!

Sounds like it could be one of your coil packs. That would explain the downpipe glowing hot from all the unburnt fuel igniting in the headers. Also would make the Cat temp sensor go throuth the roof. Best bet would be to check your coil packs. There is a link www.soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/126/59197.html?1146008200 ( you may have to just copy and paste it)
See how you go after that. Only other thing i can think of would be the Air Flow Meter. but id be looking into the coil packs firstly my friend

Ok, How old is the Catalyctic convertor on your car? Maybe it has collapsed on that side? A blocked cat will make it run as rugged as hell, as there is so much backpressure?

Christian, call Wayne at Tuff Toys 3899 6011 (bulimba). They are good, honest guys and they also work on soarers and other imports every day of the week.

Christian, what was the solution then?
A lot of us didn't comment as we haven't run into that particular problem ourselves, but we might one day, so any feedback when a problem gets fixed is always appreciated.

Christian may clarify this more but this gist I got was that an intermittent coil problem cutting a bank in and out caused the fuel ecu to heat up (may have been on it's last legs) and then shuffle off this mortal coil. Now it's running right Christian are you coming on our cruise next weekend? http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/287/58972.html?1148420765
