everytime i get into the car from a long period of inactivity (ie a few hours or so) i can smell petrol inside the car... and after a long drive, when i get out of the car, i can smell fuel jst outside the car... i dont know whats wrong.. could it be a split in the fuel line?

I've got a similar problem. Seems to happen only occasionally. I can smell it in the boot, but it's stronger inside the car.

Anyone got any ideas?

Also check the inlet. I had dribbles down the side of the car and a petrol smell then I got the inlet siliconed in and its all fixed now.

Peter Scott’s note on Planet Soarer is right, the petrol leak is coming from the vent pipe on the petrol tank. But cutting this hose during compliance is not required. Only the retarded compliance companies that don’t know how to modify the petrol intake of a Soarer will cut this pipe. Take your Soarer to Tony Brown at Adrenalin on the Gold Coast (07 5591 2444) to fix the petrol leak permanently. Or call around to your local Soarer specialist and they will fix it for you. Cost is about $150.

Dad had a fuel smell on his 32, turned out the fuel cap had a crack in it, replaced and no more fuel smell.

Number 1 culprit for fuel smells from what ive seen is the fking stupid nozzle restrictor put in as part of compliance - the design of the ones that are brazed in such as mine is poor and if the brazing is even slightly dodgy vapours and even raw fuel can leak out from between it and the original pipe

Either replace the whole inlet pipe or seal the outside properly with metal putty and leak test

Another example of compliance rules making a car worse than it was before
