Hello,

Greetings fellow Soarer Owners.

I have a '96 Toyota Soarer. 3.0 Litre.

I recently removed the Stock Air Box and screwed on a Mushroom-style pod filer.

This makes the engine sound better and I have noticed the extra horse power.

Because the engine isn't finding it as hard as before to intake air does this affect my fuel economy?

Thanks.

Welcome Xinan.

Pod's can be good or bad, depends on the brand and who you ask.

If you drive it hard, then because the pod is allowing more air/fuel in, then yes, you will use more fuel. The extra power you say you can feel has to come from somewhere.

Welcome Xinan. You'd have to be the youngest Soarer owner on the planet. How old do you have to be in NZ to get your licence? Anyway, nice choice on a first car - if it is your first car.

I think there was another 16yr who had a Soarer on his L's a couple years back Sam? back at ALSC.

Or he could have been 17.

Either way very lucky at 16.

I find with my Pod Filter i get reasonable fuel economy. Ive never had a Standard box to compare it too though.

You can get your license at 15 in New Zealand, and can then legally drive whatever your heart desires.

Dad taught me to drive at 10 on new subdivisions that wern't built on.
Then I used to sneak off into town in Dad's old 1962 Austin A40 Countryman when I was 12, which was fine until I got pulled over one day by a cop who thought I looked "A little young" to be behind the wheel (Busted........Bugger!).
So had to wait 3 loooooooong years before I could legally drive again (sniff)

I wonder how a BFI on a 3.0gt (just like the v8) would compare to a Pod style filter... Any ideas? Wasnt it found that Making a BFI out of the stock airbox gave much better air suction than a pod filter on the v8, perhaps its the same case with the I6?

I would think the BFI on a3.0gt would be the best bet by far!!
