Im really not sure what topic to put this under but im wondering what everyone one uses to clean under the hood? Iv been using wd-40 with some old rag's... wipes it all down and seems to look good, is it safe to use wd-40 in an engine bay and on rubber hoses?

Not sure about safe, but probably leaves things a bit greasy and dust will stick.

tyre shine makes the plastics/rubbers look better than wd40 does

taking a hose to my engine kinda freaks me out a little, is it possible to damage any electrics by spraying water in there?

I agree Hayden I've lost count of the number of posts that I have read that start with "I just hosed down my engine bay and now my car runs like crap!"
I personally use engine degreaser on a rag and elbow grease and finish with a silicon spray on the hoses and it comes up pretty good.

You need to steam clean it to avoid the electrical problems with hosing. Normally hosing a v8 dosn't cause problems unless you get water under the HT lead on the passangers side igniter.

Finding a place with a steam cleaner can be a mission. Some garages have them but most just use a pressure cleaner.

i just use a bit of tyre shine or armor oil on the plastics(dust does stick it it easy though with tyre shine) and mothers polisher to do the polished stuff, but i do use WD-40 on the engine though which is great stuff to use.

Armour-All is the stuff to clean your engine with.

Other things will make the aluminium lose it's coating and it will go white and yucky.

Armour-All and a couple of Chux's will make it look like new!
