I'm not sure if the soarer instrument cluster is laid out in a similar order to a JZX90 one but hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about:
The light I'm talking about about is directly to the left of the "Doors Open" warning light at the bottom of the instrument panel. The symbol is a non-symetrical shape with two projecting "T" shapes at a 90o angle on the left hand side... not the best description I know. I was thinking it might be the diff fluid warning?
Anyway, this light came on last night as I was driving home from work after I planted my foot to the floor. I only accelerated for a few seconds and then backed off and it was then that I noticed that the light was on. After a second or two it turned off again. I also thought I noticed a slight hesitation in acceleration when I still had the boot in but this was right when I was about to back off so it might have been nothing.
This is in an auto JZX90 tourer V if it makes any difference.
Any suggestions as to what the light is and what it means?
I thought the cat warning light was the one which kinda looked like a catalytic converter with heat lines coming off the top? If so then this is a different one.
What does the cat light coming on indicate?
I think i'll make a sketch of the symbol and attach it so people know what i'm talking about.
It sort of looks like an engine....check engine light, or something like that maybe. Does it come on when you have the key in the ignition position, when all the other lights on the dash light up?
Graham- It wasn't on for long and it hasn't come back on since so *hopefully* it isn't a big problem? I'm getting the timing belt changed next week (and the water pump as suggested on these forums) so I'll ask the guys at c-red whether they know what it could have been.
The only thing that has crossed my mind is that it was REALLY cold when I drove home last night and when the light came on the car felt like it was pulling harder than normal. Perhaps I hit the boost cut? I had the car dyno'd a week or so ago and it was only running 10.5 psi so it's pretty unlikely but you never know...?
Peter- I've only had the car for a couple of months and haven't gotten around to taking any pics but I will do soon. Until then people can just picture a pearl camry in their minds (it's stock as a rock at the moment).

mic thats a check engine light ,normally means the ecm has logged a fault code. however in light of when it came on (hard on the gas ,very cold night)it prob just hit overboost protection, dont sweat it just find out how to read codes to check cheers mate.

I have a switch with that exact symbol in the Isuzu. It had me totally flummoxed. Turns out it's a heater for something or other (not the glowplugs) when the temp's below 6C. Obviously, I don't have a manual!
Benny- Thanks for that Is the "SST" referred to a toyota-specific diagnostic computer or something? Is reading the error codes something that has to be done with specialised equipment?
