Can you power an external amp ( not big , up to 150w bridged for a subwoofer )from the old stock amp supply ; I believe it must be in the boot somewhere ?
I need to do that, or run the power cable under the car, as the firewall has no holes to get out with a cable... It is a manual, so the hole people use is taken by the clutch.
Which solution would you recommend if not ... I need to do this in the arvo today.

Doesn't matter , I managed to run the power cable up front in the car through the firewall ( cutting the rubber grommet where the engine lid lever goes out )...
I used a cheapo JVC amp ( I negotiated it at 115AUD at JbHifi ), as I needed a low power amp for the sub only , and it works awesome. I have just enough bass inside , the subwoofer is actually very good for 50 bucks ( 8" from Jaycar , double coil ) , I highly recommend it as it also fits inside the hole quite easily with a 1.5 cm mdf spacer.
