Well, Amazingly my soarers CD player started working again a couple of days ago, it works absolutely mint now. Last time I tried on a copied cd fiddling with the 6 adjusters in the player its self it didnt work at all. But now it does even on copied CDs still skips but not much - Real cds work perfectly!

Anyway - Now that its back up and running I can have the stereo up loud now with quality far better than the tapes Ive been using for the last month -

Now heres my possibly stupid Question but, can there be a risk of damaging any of the speakers by having it up reasonably loud??
When I do i have treble, Mid and bass turned to all about 10-11 o'clock if you look at the analogue dials that way....

The reason I ask is just since the stuff getting old is it common to have problems with the speakers if you give them heavy use?

Any help would be super.

Thanks guys.

Mike, it pretty much comes down to common sense. If you treat the system poorly by running it to distortion levels then it will eventually give you problems, that I CAN assure you of.

I can hear low level distortion in the sub if it is up three or four bars over the default setting and I am running the volume past about 1 or 2 o'clock on the dial. I like to find the limits of my systems and make a note NOT to go over them.

If you feel the need to crank the eq levels all the way up and your still not happy with the sound/volume then you might want to look at upgrading the system.

Good to hear your CD stacker is back online, mine has good days and bad days...im not sure why

Well I never run mine so I can hear it distort at all. Never - ever no! :-)

I tend to set it to a highish volume so the dial is pointing just to the right of the A/C dial above.. then adjust the treb, bass and mid over the left sides till it sounds right. I never move them to the right past the balancing point of the dials theres no need IMO, just makes it too loud.

I guess I look after it pretty well then - Just wondered if any of the Audio gear, mainly the Speakers are prone to failure due to age etc.

Sounds like you are being kind. I often run my system to the same sort of volume without any trouble.

Over the years speakers will eventually deteriorate, generally the rubber surround around the cone will perish and go hard/brittle. Having said that it will often take 20+ years for that to happen to a well built speaker.

The GOOD thing about old speakers is that they will be very well worn in and generally be extremely smooth and easy to listen to. I was shocked at how good the factory sound was when I first got my car... but the speakers and amps are going to be replaced anyway, I am a fussy bugger when it comes to sound.

Well Im sure my speakers will be fine for some time I took the covers off not long ago and they looked fine (I will check again tomorrow around the rubber joins), rather basic but boy they really pump out a decent sound! Plus to my advantage they have definitely not been used much over the last 4 years in New Zealand by the 1st Owners as they were elderly so... usually set to a quite considerate level. Now being summer I always make sure there is a window sun reflector in the back window to keep the heat off the rear deck speakers - Some times Im too kind! :-)

Even if my speakers do need replacing one day Ill upgrade to some Nakamichi Speakers in the same sizes - would be slightly better quality as well. They can be Reasonably pricey but worth it.

Amps would probably be fine but would upgrade if required. As for the head deck not Im really concerned, the stock ones more than good enough for me - as long as it still works I can hold off either getting a later model LCD Soarer head unit cd player or a Nakamichi one. Not an Issue currently however so no need to worry about it but its always good to plan ahead :-)
