I've been reading some great things about the Jaycar 10 inch, but I've also come past a Clarion Slim Line 10 inch. I'm trying to choose between the two. Does anyone have any thoughts??

Clarion probably wont need any mods to the car to get it to fit, but odd on that the Jaycar with $hit all over it for SQ.

Then, imho, after lots of testing, the stock (free air/infinate baffle) setup won't hold a candle to a decent sealed or ported box in the boot. If you have the box moulded to the drivers rear guard, the time delay effects are minimal, and more than made up for by the fact that it will sound so much better there.

I used to have a Kenwood sub in a basic box in the boot. I now have (just recently pulled out actually) the Jaycar in the shelf. The Jaycar is a far superior driver, but sounded crap compared to the former. Now I am making a fibreglass box for the sun in the boot, now that will sound nice :-)

Yeah, I just lost my virginity... Thanks for the welcome!

I'll go for the Jaycar. I'm guessing that it will take a huge effort to box the Clarion and it will sound sh1t without a box. They didn't leave us with much space when they designed the car.

Planning on installing:
-- Headunit
JVC KD-G725 - mp3(yay!!!) and usb (double yay!!!)
-- Sub
Jaycar CS2278 10 inch sub
-- Amps
Alpine MRP-M450 Mono block -
220rms@4ohm (for the sub)
Alpine MRP-F250 - 4*50rms@2ohm (for the stock speakers)
-- Crossovers
Jaycar CX2612 Crossovers

Might change tweeters, but see how it sounds first. Installing next weekend... getting pretty excited!! Hopefully the stock speakers will pull their weight!!

Does anyone know whether the stock speakers will sound alright in this setup?

Personally I would change the at least the front tweeters to Jaycar Super Tweeters and Crossover, as the mid that comes out of the 4" is quite impressive.. but would still consider changing them for a replacement set of components.. The rears (imo) aren't 'that' important, as (again imo) rear is only really for fill.. but me being me I would still replace them for something better..

front tweeters are really really If you're going to jaycar get yourself some 6" kevlar splits. They go for about $140 a pair from there thats what i have in my setup and its awesome.
