I have an EMV and the stock subwoofer. My problem is that when I turn the volume up, it reaches a point where the subwoofer does not get any louder, it actually gets quieter. This is not a function of the stock amplifier or sub as I've used the line output from the EMV to run an aftermarket amp and sub and get the same thing.
Does anybody else experience this?
I'd be interested to know if it's a fault with my EMV, or if it's just the way that they operate. I figure I might need to replace a few caps in the EMV.

Thanks for the quick response.
I should have mentioned that I normally run my iPod through the TV tuner loom. Is it still going to be a problem with the radio unit if I'm just using the iPod through the TV input?

I don't know any specific's, but my understanding is that the TV output audio is kinda weird the way it's setup, doesn't have any equaliser stuff and whatnot.
Does it do the same with a tape? radio? or a CD?
Could be a problem in the sub amp.

Tim,
That's how they designed it. From about 12 O'clock on the volume knob the sub output does not rise linearly with the volume. My Japanese is nonexistent but it seems to be described as "auto loudness". It did stop the factory free air sub from dying an early and violent death while under warranty. I don't know of a way to disable it.

For some reason I originally thought that it was all functions, but it seems to be just the TV input. It seems to be specifically the TV input where the volume actually gets quieter once it reaches 10 o'clock. On all other functions it reaches a level at about 12 o'clock and stays there.
Luke Gomer has suggested wiring directly through the tape head. I might try the tape player, see if this has the same problem, and if it doesn't then wire my ipod to that.
Thanks to everyone for their input, and Damian for his emails.
