I, like most people, find that my Soarer's stacker skips and misreads when playing burned discs. I've tried many (MANY, MANY) different types of disc and finally found one that reads perfectly and doesn't skip at all. It's TDK XA80 CD-R AUDIO. Further, my 2003 Landcruiser's 6 disc stacker is also a b*st*rd for misreading burned discs. These work perfectly in it also. I've been trialling the XA80's for a good 3 months and with near daily use, have not had one single skip or misread...It's practically a miracle!

A laser realignment will fix the skipping misread and allow you to use burnt disks. Not only can you then use burnt disks you will also have a much high tolerance to skipping.

All CD lasers go out of alignment over time, I think you are just lucky that your particular stacker will play this burnt disk. More importantly it is likely that other cd stackers will not play this particular disk as the each laser over time has distorted differently.

Just remember there are different versions of the laser mechanism and all react differently and have all aged differently as well.

Hmmm, I was not indicating that this was a "fix all" for everyone's car. I was saying I had particular success with this disc type. I think a $1 disc to try is pretty cheap for a potential fix that doesn't involve removing parts from the car. I would also point out that I have skipping problems in my 1992 Soarer AND my 2003 Landcruiser. BOTH of these problems have been completely eliminated by using these discs.

update on disc's. tried a couple of different brands. the TDK XA80 skipped on my player, the TDK GOLDS + SKC wouldn't read. the best disc's were a cheap supermarket brand called HOMESELECT PREMIER.but even these would skip now and again. when i have a bit of spare money i will get the laser cleaned and realigned.

laser realignments are done via the pot screw near the laser itself. Careful though. Mess with it too much and you will break your laser. I recommend nothing more then 1/4 of a turn clockwise.

That's the laser power isn't it? The alignments are the 3 or 4 pots on the motherboard?

I stand by this statement 110%.

For anyone looking for a quick fix or band aid solution good luck. I can assure you that there is only one way to fix the stackers properly. Do a search there are quite a few threads on stackers already.
