Are you trying to use a home DVD player in your car?? Although possible with the use of an inverter I doubt it would be able to handle the bumps of everyday driving!!
I think you would be far better off getting a DVD player designed for the application. As by time you factor in the cost of a reasonable inverter and home DVD player, you could probably buy a proper one.
Alternately you could just run an extremely long power cord from the house to your car!!

the 3 prong plug will run off 240v ac power. An inverter will cost you about $70-100 that will convert 12v dc to 240v ac. You will also need a IR probe to go to the front of your car from the boot. That will only work if your DVD player has an IR 3.5" mono input jack.
In my opinion its alot more cheaper and neater to get a proper car dvd player that runs off 12v dc.

If it's a portable DVD player you may be able to use it, just have to work out what voltage it requires (probably 9 or 6volts) and get a cigarette adapter to suit.
Still not ideal, but you could run the cable up the front and sit it on the seat I guess.

you splice into an existing wire to get 12v and then splice into the wire you're installing. A good source for 12v dc is the ciggie lighter. Simple and easy. If you want to use another source then you'll need to get a multimeter.
All in car dvd players/headunits/etc require 3 wires to wire up the power properly.
12v constant 12v accessories neutral.
You can find accessories if you use a multimeter and turn your key on and off.
Constant is always on regardless if your ignition is switched on or off.
neutral is just grounding it to the chassis or better yet the grounding point (hence completing the circuit).

For the electric bugs out there: I'm fitting a media player to my soarer pretty soon, but i've got 1 question. The power converter that comes with the car kit outputs 12V 2.5A, would a 3A fuse suit or should i go 5A or match the 2.5A or what? Cheers
