I was recently in my mates VT commodore, he has a in-Dash DVD screen that has RCA inputs. We both have digital set top boxes at our houses, and realised that it came with a 12v car power kit, all that was needed was to plug in the power, connect an aerial (just used his house one) and connect RCA and thats it, TV in his car. Can this same process be used in a Soarer with the RCA in's in the centre console? (The set top box has NTSC video out). Cheers. Could be a cheap option to get TV.

Aerial was an indoor TV Aerial, dogs ears with a UHF receiver in the middle, but he also has a three pronged aerial that mounts on the back windscreen but it does have one aerial straight down the middle, this one is made for cars and is about $80. I will try on sunday and let you know. (unless someone can do it before then.)

Already tried Nathan... Yes they work providing you are stationary.
Better option is to use a dedicated mobile DVB-T tuner module...like this one which can be picked up for around $200AUD. As you can see they use diversity twin tuners in these...

I use an el-cheapo Jaycar set top box that has 12v input. Yes it works but like Richard said mostly only while stationary. If you use the centre console A/V you will only have mono sound and digital boxes have stereo sound.

Mark or Richard, how does that one go whilst moving? Is the reception ok? How/where have you mounted antennas? I would really like TV in the car, but refuse to put ugly antennas on the back window.

For yours, if it has EMV, I'd just mod the Soarer tuner. It works OK and you should already have the antennae and amps in the car. The TV tuner lives under the rear seat on drivers' side and has 4 antenna cables plugged into it. The factory antennae are in the rear windows already. I have seen a few TV conversions now and none work better than a modded standard Soarer tuner which has the added advantage of factory touch screen control. None of the digital tuners I've seen are any good while moving.

You can't use the diversity antenna array in the Soarer's as the digital tuners can't switch between the antennas. I have trial fitted the factory antennas to the digital tuner i had on test it didn't work that well..
But the supplied mag base antennas worked quite well..

Only problem with the factory one Mark, is that I have hacked it for the DVD... hehehe My head unit has a spare AV input, so I figure this should be a good way to use it.
