Do you guys think this can be done? I can't remember what the back of the standard audio unit looks like, but would it be feasible to simply unplug the stacker and run some wires that go to a headphone jack to plug into an iPod? What do you guys think?

the stacker talks to the head unit with Toyota's secret protocol, and no, it cant be done unfortunately...

I read a thread that was here from over a year ago, from Mark Paddock that tried to do the same thing (an electronics engineer), without success.

Sorry for the bad news.

Ben,
I think the only way of doing this is to wire your iPod into the TV unit under the backseat. I did mine 2 years ago - works a treat. You can feed a lead under the carpet to the bin between the seats.

Thanks guys, but I don't have a tv in my soarer. Are there any generic plugs on the stacker itself that I can manipulate?

Technically this is feasible, all you need is a circuit to replace the stacker with a connection to the vehicle LAN and a microcontroller that can talk the same protocol as the EMV and you connect your IPod into that. The microcontroller tells the EMV that it has CD1 and CD2-12 can be mapped to playlists on the IPod and then the normal controls skip, change etc. as normal. Vlad is probably the only person that knows exactly how to do this though at the moment.

Ben, if you have an EMV, chances are you have had a TV in there, under the backseat behind the driver. You don't need the TV unit itself, just need to splice into the audio wiring.

It makes me feel soooo good NOT to have a limited. As soon as you've replaced the std. head unit everything is easy.

Sorry, doesn't help, I just like to gloat.

That is the way its done on the current generation of Lexus/Toyota vehicles - you can even display the track names too. Using the rear view camera input (+ overlay disable) can allow Video Ipod to be used.

With an EMV system you can use either the tape or cd inputs without having to mod anything other than connect some wires...

You will need a dummy cd/tape for it to work but hey its cheap and better quality than using an FM or tape adaptor

Phil, could you explain a bit more? Where do you connect the wires etc? Pics would be very useful.

Cheers mate.

I have tried directly connecting to both the CD and Tape inputs. Both inputs are balanced audio so its not ideal connecting an unbalanced source like an ipod but it works and i personally dont get any interference or noise on the input.

The tape input is best to use as with the CD it mutes the audio when the stacker gets to the end of the track on your dummy CD or if you hit a bump. Also the stacker output seems to be quite "hot" so there is less gain on the preamp which makes the levels a bit low when you connect the ipod.

Pics and more info soon

Well 3 years later and i was wondering if there was a good sudgestion to getting my iphone to play through the standard car stereo other than from a radio frequency transmitter thingy you buy for like $10 at a servo or supermarket.

I have the standard tape player and stacker but the stacker "doesnt work" apparently said the last owner which i have also researched and discovered that theres no point in fixing the stacker.

I was thinking on removing the tape headunit and changing for a aftermarket one din,
but would like to run the standard speakers and sub still.
Is there any complications into doing so.

Mathew, you can connect your ipod input through the TV ,stereo plus video .
If you do go for a new head set then go for digital radio (DAB+)

Hi Josh, plenty to chose from at
http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/index.html lots of advice on this site if you ask , I went for a DAB+ tuner (pure highway) and connected it into the Soarer system so i could use all the Soarer controls
More stations ,C.D. quality,no clicks or fade never have FM/AM on now.
Also it may go the same way as digital TV and close down FM?
This d/din unit looks good value.

Yes , as long as you get one that fits not much room front to back, I put a 1/4 din DVD in the glove box.once connected to TV input all the songs and menu will be displayed on your EMV screen.
