Got a four channel amp and sub installed the other day and the guy who did it for me said that there is a factory amplifier in the doors driving each of the stock components up front. Are they any good or should i just rewire them to the amp instead?

My stock front speakers are hooked up to my headunit and I have to admit it sounds very loud (mainly treble no bass, that's the subwoofer's job).

The factory 4 channel amp is under the stacker in the boot. they are a reasonable amp, about 4 x 45 WRMS. I caually run two of them with active crossovers.
The el-cheapo pov pack stereo in some TT's does not have an amp separate but inbuilt in the head unit.

Which head unit would that be? I've got a single (non working) CD/cassette player in mine with the sub on the parcel shelf.

The one with inbuilt amps has no CD option at all, just radio and tape.
The single CD headunit uses the same amps/sub as EMV and headunit/stacker cars.
The single CD CAN be fixed.
