I just bought a 1998 model Toyota Harrier and looking to get these things converted similar to how it was done on the Soarer. I would like to get the radio and TV converted (at least) and the GPS if possible.

http://soarer.tv/ in UK appear to have some stuff. I have emailed them and awaiting a reply. Does anyone know someone who got these done in Australia?

Also looking to get the Reverse Camera and Cruise control installed if possible. Anyone know if it is possible to get the reversing camera and cruise control from Lexus RX330 / RX350 fitted?

Any info would be appreciated. Thank You.

Contact Nam

I know he can do what you want!
He did my TV Sat/Nav mod to my 97 Soarer.

Allex,

There is no cheap trick to changing the Japanese navigation to Oz (or UK).
There are no re-programming options, 'chipping' solutions or disc sets for your country that will change the existing Japanese unit.

The only solution is to fit an aftermarket unit made by Clarion, Panasonic etc that will output NTSC RGBs to the existing Harrier screen. Operation is via remote control.

The cost of the above approach is about 4 times that of a portable windscreen mount GPS unit. This high cost either puts people off, or provides poor customer feedback as they think they are/have been ripped off.

To replace the Harrier Mk1 screen/head unit with the Oz Lexus part would require re-wiring as the two parts are not directly compatible. You would also loose the 'TV' and reversing camera input functions.

TV conversion uses the same approach as navigation either by plugging the aftermarket Tuner directly into the existing Harrier TV Tuner (found behind the back seat), or by adapting the wiring.

Thanks to both for your quick replies. I am very happy to hear there are several options.

Ok, I will forget about the option of adapting RX330 / RX350 systems into the Harrier.

I love how Soarer modifications are integrated into the system so well and was hoping for something similar. I will forget about GPS SATNAV for now. If I can get the radio, TV, Reverse Camera and Cruise control to work I will be happy. No, I will be ecstatic.

So, what about the radio? Can the factory radio be 'modified' like in the Soarer?

Luke, you mentioned Reverse Camera Input. Is there a 'kit' available like there is for Soarers for plug and play?

Allex,

I have not looked at the camera in detail as all the Harriers I have worked on had cameras fitted.

I will look at the Japanese schematics to try an help you out.

Colin is right about Nam. I have pasted on Navigation requests from Oz customers to him in the past.
